When using Google maps on android Auto, I sometimes see the next turn directions flash up in the centre of the virtual cockpit (which is great!) However, it's inconsistent and only works when I toggle views and then disappears. How do I keep this from happening? Thanks.

I'm in a Skoda just now but it's basically the same software and I have similar issues. I think it's more an Android auto problem than the car. I've found it works with the directions if you connect the phone and THEN input the destination via Google maps on the infotainment screen. It stops working if you have to stop and the phone gets disconnected while you get out to fill up with petrol or something. If you get back into the car and Google maps auto-resumes the journey then directions won't come up on the screen anymore.

the "easy" ( pain in the arse) fix i found to work for me is simply end the journey on Google maps before you get out and disconnect the phone and then when you get back in the car and start up again just start the journey again as though you were setting off for the first time via the in car screen and the directions should appear on the driver's screen.

Sorry, made that sound a bit convoluted.

TL;Dr - never let Google maps resume a journey if you have to turn off the infotainment/get out of the car/disconnect the phone for whatever reason.

Again the caveat that I'm currently in a Skoda and it's essentially the same software.

Strange because I only the internal map on the virtual cockpit, not the Google maps
That's correct, Google maps pops direction messages at the top of the screen nothing to do with the internalmap

AFAIK the pop-up appears for a limited time before major changes in direction, like highway exits or road changes / turns.
The information is coming from any navigation app that is running, be it the car's navigation or a 3rd party app that's running in AA or AC.
Also, you can only have one of these apps running at a time, including the car's navigation.. So, for example, you cannot run car's navigation AND Waze, at the same time.
Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong. Still, there might be some issues in functionality as @WhiskyBomber mentioned above with stopping/resuming.. I haven't really relied on those pop-ups and therefore didn't notice if it's buggy.
