Any 1.4 16V high mileage owners?

Hi,

Anyone owns this engine with high mileage?

I'm reaching 110k miles (175.000kms) and wonder if anyone knows how long can this engine can keep running.

Anyone with more mileage?

Interesting I think the engine is almost the same.

It is probably better than that one, the early engines, well at least the "A" series suffered from piston ring and/or cylinder bore issues I think.

was comparing old videos with new ones and my engine is doing a tack tack tack when cold, 1.40 in this video

Im not liking this sound but seen in other cars on youtube too

I think that these engines do get very noisy as they get older, but they still seem to be reliable, it could be piston slap due to the pistons having very short skirts, really not much you can do except get the engine opened up and if necessary replace the pistons and rings, and check the bores to make sure that they are now not too oval. If they are too oval, the engine block would need bored out to reduce/remove the wear and a suitable bigger set of pistons and rings fitted.
I've read on someone, with the earlier BBY or BBZ engine in a VW Polo, changing all the hydraulic tappets and ending up getting a bit annoyed as the noise was still there.

just thought to share, this oil change they put 5W40 instead of the 5W30 and the engine sound sounds much more healthy, searching around youtube many people report the same in this engine
I've been always using 5W40, but last year oil change they put 5W30, hence why I started hearing new noises
