Any thoughts on reversing beepers please?

I've just bought a Cupra Formentor VZ2. I love it but I'm having an issue, mainly because I live in a seaside town where many visitors amble around without paying attention. I have to visit one part of town which involves reversing out afterwards. With the car in electric mode being silent in reverse and with the tourists dawdling, I've nearly collected two of them with the back end in the last two days. They even seem to manage to avoid the camera before they wander out. I think the solution would be some sort of discreet "beepers" so that they know I'm moving towards them. I thought they might be fitted but I can't find any reference to them. Has anyone else fitted something similar please?

I get what you are saying you can buy reversing buzzers but I would be care full wiring them in due to the can-bus systems, but why not reverse in as apposed to driving in !

Unfortunately, whichever way I do it they are going to be in my way at the rear. It's a little alley off a cobbled street so if I drive in I have to reverse out. If I reverse in the same dawdlers are around. They already tell me regularly that no traffic is allowed on the cobbles (which is untrue). It's a downside of living in a popular seaside town with narrow streets! I don't mind putting something not fully wired in if there's likely to be a problem, but does that mean I would need to manually operate it whenever I needed it? I'm not in the least mechanically adept so it would go to a garage for fitting anyway...

Is this a wind up? You want to sound like a delivery van, go ahead. Alternatively, toot your horn as you're reversing.

I'm asking a genuine question here and I seem to have nothing but smart alecks replying to me. I am new to this forum and it seems you are not very welcoming. Are you typical of Cupra drivers? Or is it a male/female thing? I don't really care what the car sounds like, a large number of people are "on holiday" in the town I live in and are oblivious to most things as they wander in the road. If I scoop a few up it will be my fault. And blowing a forward facing horn when they are behind me isn't going to help. I just want a discreet beeper, not a klaxon. Obviously no one here has any genuine recommendations so I'll go to a place specialising in car electronics.

Sorry if you've been offended by the slightly flippant answers you might have had. You say you've just got a Cupra...can I ask what car you had before and how did you overcome this problem with you previous vehicle? And as an aside, I had no idea what sex you are (I actually assumed you were a bloke).

Thank you for that. My previous car was a Range Rover Vogue SE V8 so very large, white and diesel. Quite noisy and very obvious. A bit of revving and they generally moved. This Cupra is black and much smaller so not as noticeable and very quiet when it's running on the battery. Pedestrians wandering into the roads is a big problem where I live (Whitby in North Yorkshire) and it can get VERY crowded. I have to drive along the most popular cobbled street to reach the yard with my garage on it so reversing out of there and avoiding children, dogs, drunks and visitors generally is problematic. And it's a rare day indeed when I can find room to reverse out of the garage and turn around in the yard before trying to get out onto the street. It's really the reason I changed cars, although so far I do like the Cupra, or I will once I work out all its bells and whistles!

Seriously, Albeniz, a quick toot on the horn will do the job. Don't get a bleeper, it will drive you nuts when it comes on when you don't need it (I've had them in vans in previous jobs and woke the neighbours up when I was on early ops, and I forgot to press the off button). ?

And as an aside, why not drop some photos of your motor here? You'll soon learn we're an appreciative and knowledgeable bunch (except me, I think DIY stands for Don't Involve Yourself).

I'll give it a go and report back on how many I round up! TBH it's the ones I can't see coming who just materialise behind me who are the problem. I suppose the horn would echo in the yard entrance pretty loudly! It's safely put away for the night in its garage now, I'll see what happens tomorrow. Cheers.

When I was a dreaded white van man, I had a reversing beeper fitted to my vehicle (certain places I delivered to required it).
Unfortunately, in my experience, it made little difference in normal everyday use, especially in London. The sheeple just ignored it.

OK, I'll do that tomorrow, but so far it's just a standard VZ2 hybrid. I'm just glad I was able to get it so quickly. I ordered a new one from Darlington in October which was apparently arriving in March but was then pushed back to late June (and probably further as I gather it's now a 64 week lead time). But the dealer found me a show one last week which was exactly the same and with a discount so I've had that one. It had only done 900 miles so fine with me!

OK well thanks, I'll be back for more I expect. I have already had grief from my son today (this is his car and so he looked down mightily on the Range Rover, although he was impressed by the VW engine in the Cupra) when I asked for ideas about fitting my dash cam with only one lighter socket...
