Anybody who has changed their speakers now getting water inside the car?

As above really, i changed my speakers as per the forum thread, brilliant sound, but now i get water on the black plastic sill cover which eventually runs onto the carpet.

Anyone else? I have noticed a rain gutter affair on the OEM speakers, i presume this stops the water.

thinking about it a touch more, this may be allied to the wet windows syndrome, because it is only happening on the drivers door, as is the wet windows saga. Time to look and see what i can do.

I changed my speakers, didnt notice any rain gutters as you say, and dont get any water inside the car. However I do get pouring water out of the holes in the bottom of the door after rain/car wash but it doesnt make its way inside the car. I noticed the speakers being wet too after rain, and im hoping that they have been designed for this!

Have a look at the OEM speakers there is a rain "lip" at the top and a small one at the bottom, I am assuming they are there to keep water out of the car, its the only thing that is different and I am now getting water in the car.

I had this problem, on both front doors. The speakers are 8 cm deep (DLS r6a), and were touching the window rail. The water was comming down all over the plastic (and still is), the speakers and inside the car. There realy is no problem with the orig. speakers because, as you to wrote, they have a lip to protect them wrom geting wet.
The seat mechanics couldn't come up with a solution so i did it myself.
First i put out the speakers to the max, about 12mm. There was stil water falling on them. Then i took a plastic pipe 16cm diameter, cut two peaces and sealed them with silicone so they cover the speakers. It's stil holding!
The other solution is to buy flat speakers.

if you use speaker adaptors you and adapt them to fit individual speakers and the speakers wont be inside the door. ca be easier to add a lip if it even needed.

I used the speaker adaptors, and all the water is doing is running down the inside of the door, onto the back of the speaker, and into the car that way. As i have said above, this may be allied to the Wet Windows sticky thread, the water is getting somewhere it shouldn't and running down the inside skin of the door, and dripping onto the speaker.

for the time, i have fitted a shroud made of plastic, to divert the water to the bottom of the door.

I ment drain pipe, yes.
Aftermarket adapters won't work alone, they are about 2cm shorter than on the original speakers. With adapters, the speakers won't be inside the door only if they are 5cm or les deep.
I'll try to post the pictures tomorrow.

Well the aftermarket adapter for the Golf IV with the lip cut off which all you Altea and New Leon people have been fitting since 2005 on when I discovered that you could use it and you needed it, puts the speakers in the right place which is in the door . I'd suggest that as has been said wet speakers is due to water ingress above what it should be. The Infinity speakers will be designed to get wet since American cars will leak like a sive, I'm sure. The problem with the Philips speakers apart from the crap sound is if they get wet being paper speakers you'd wreck them, hence why I guess they are better protected. Perhaps someone may say that the Golf IV speakers don't go in the door and what is required is something totally diferent, dum, dee, dee. I wouldn't get at all worried with a bit fo water on the Infinity speakers but I'd get worried about water getting in the car.... what I was going to say on leakage and rattles is the rubber bung fitted back in which carries the original wires. I just pulled it out, put the speakers wires under the bung and pushed the bung back in, so it's sealed again. I've seen some pics on hear where people haven't put the bung back in, that would give you a hole. Just a thought.

Tell, thanks for the reply. I have found out that the shroud on the Phillips speakers is there to divert water that is running dwon the door away from the speaker and the inrterior section of the door. It actually directs any water draining down the inside of the door towards the drain holes, thereby being outside the door seal, which is good.

The speaker adaptors do put the speakers in the correct position, but with no means of diverting water away from the interior of the door and further, the interior of the car.

Now, the water running down the inside of the car door IS the real problem, and it is a coincidence that my drivers door is ther only door where the water is getting to a place it should not, and also is the only door that has the "wet windows" syndrome, so it would seem that if Seat fix the Wet windows snag, then i would not have a problem at all.

In the meanwhilst i have frabricated a "fix" from plastic and an old inner tube, and I tested the car with a hose pipe at the weekend, and it seems to be all good.

Well hellowed looking at the pictures the speaker adaptor you fitted is not the Golf IV Autoleads Sak 3103 unless you got carried away with a hacksaw

You seem to have a slither of an adaptor ring:

I'm wonder whether that is your problem.... LOL. You note that the Autoleads one as per the project that I published on the Altea site that kicked all of this off, has a cover and that is what people have been fitting to their Leons

So I still think that the Autoleads SAK 3103 does a better job .... and you get free connector leads... and a drain pipe is not required .

What's the laughter for? Golf V adapters are mounted on. Can't you see it on the pic Tell? The adapter I have in hand is to put the speaker out max. to the grill.
So... golf adapter + 1cm adapter, and the speakers stil got wet. I had to go with the pipe.
No Autoleads SAK 3103 will help if you have the same problem I have. Or, as I wrote before, you can buy smaller speakers.
Not all Leon05 have this problem. On ones that doesn't, golf adapters are probably enough.

Well to me looking at the picture the Golf V adaptors haven't got the same depth as the Golf IV. The Golf IV funnels whilst the V ones in your picture don't they look like more of a short tube hence not protecting the end of the speaker. Hence why I reckon nobody that has fitted the SAK3103s has reported a problem todate. That was the laughter that you had to go for the drain pipe tube to make good.

I reckon the funnel and the depth is what the 3103s give you that better protects the speakers from any dripping water. Anybody care to measures theirs up [I'm not going to take mine out for the purpose]. I suspect that the effect that you get is when you drive if there is water leakage, this is sprayed around from the ingress point, rather than a drip as such. The 3103s are one piece of moulded plastic, whilst what you show is two pieces in the assembly, hence again this gives you the possibility of a seal that isn't as good as it should be [having a flat roof at the back of where I live I know about sealing water out or not as the case may be ].

So I still think myself the trusted solution is the SAK 3103 and a hacksaw to remove the lip, but interesting that you can now buy Golf V ones, you couldn't in 2005.

i used the 3103 adaptors, and i was getting water draining out of the bottom of the speaker grill, and into the car.

I think mine is due to the wrong part of the interior of the door getting wet, due to the "wet windows" saga.

I fitted the speakers as per the "original Altea" speakers thread, as per your guide Tell, but I AM getting water into the car.
