anyone on here fitted HIDs to your FULL beam?

guys just wondering if anyone on here has fitted an HID kit to their full beam, (H1 bulb)

i vaguely remember trying it when i got the car and not being able to physically fit the bulb (the wee mount was too small for the glass of the bulb to fit through if that makes sense)

can it be done? if so, how!

I would recommend not doing this, mainly because the HID bulbs need time to heat up which may only take 2 or 3 seconds, but when your traveling at 60, 70 or 80mph and its pitch black its quiet a long wait. Also oncoming traffic may be blinded if your not quick enough to dip.

I would recommend you using Osram Nightbreakers for your headlights, they are a lot more whiter than your normal bulbs, although maybe not as white as your HID dipped lights.

I have them fitted along with HID dipped and HID fogs, they are a good match with them.

I have HID main beam, albeit in a mk4 ibiza, but there is no wait for them when you switch them on, since your dipped beam is already on, and stays on, so its not like your driving in the dark til they warm up

Problem comes if you flash cars to tell them to go or something, also a flash can damage HIDs

I've had mine for over 5 years without an issue. you learn quite quickly that it takes a second to flash them. Exactly like standard hi/lo xenons or cars with pop up headlights

Fair enough! I don't use my main beam enough to warrant spending on HIDs for them. I have dipped HIDs though. Just ordered some nightbreaker plus' for the main beam, been meaning to do it for ages!

I have tried several HID ballasts and all of them require at least 2 or 3 seconds to heat up and as Cmac said, that's not good when you're traveling at a high speed and trying to flash someone in order to pass or such. It's also extremely blinding for people.

I removed the HID from the main beam and installed Osram Nightbreaker Plus and never looked back. They are magnificent bulbs.. bright, long, and most importantly very, very strong. They are way brighter than the OEM Philips bulbs that come with the car, but are still yellowish, so I'd say they are around 3850K in color temperature.
