Anyone replaced the Gear gator?

I've got a rip in the gator and wondered if anyone has changed one? I've had a twist of the gearknob and its not moved and don't want to be too rough with it in case there's a simple way of removing it that doesn't require brut force? I'm also assuming the bottom just clips out once the knob is removed? I imagine it's quite straight forward just fancy checking before i begin!

the gearknob is clipped on
you need to lift up the gaiter and open the clip to remove
then you can lever the lower section of the lever off to replace gaiter
