I'm not sure this will work. These are very wide calipers, and even the 17" ibiza cupra rims have a very awkward shape just to allow for these calipers.
Not a hope. Barely fit the special/silly Ibiza Cupra rims.
Why would you.... the 1 piston big Golf brakes are probably superior in every way but unsprung weight. The AP's are a corrosion nightmare which now is mostly here for us.. my big brake Golf stopped better than the Ibiza does with the AP's (balance .. because the Ibiza has same brakes on the back.. suspect Golf type setup puts more brakes on the rear with the big brakes up front)
The 1-pot calipers with some performance pads are great for street use. It's only at the limit that the difference between 1-pots and 4-pots becomes clear, i.e. a track day. Even the mk2 leon cupra has 1-pot calipers nowadays. They are easy in maintainance, cheaper to produce, etc.
Every car ive owned with 4 pots have had much better brakes than ones with single pots. My old m3 had single pots which didnt seem very powerful (which I can never work out why bmw dont use 4 or 6 pot brakes like every other manufacturer) but old 200sx and my cupra has much better stopping power and initial feel.
The main reason BMW uses 1 pots I think is because they are fine for street use, cheaper to produce, easier to maintain, etc. 6/8 pistons is 6 to 8 times more problem areas potentially. On the older bmw's the difference will probably be more noticable. More pistons is not necessarily better, some cars with big ass brakes still brake like sh*t. They just look nice, for sure
Yeah I know it saves money but a company like BMW had the money to put decent brakes on there cars. Merc audi and porsche all do so I can't understand BMW not. Single pots are such ugly things to have behind lovely big wheels. My old e36 m3 brakes we terrible in comparison to my 200sx which had 4 pots and when you have a heavyish car with 321bhp you want to have confidence in the brakes.
