Are there fake Seat Sport gear knobs?

I’m looking to replace my worn Seat Sport gear knob but before I start searching around does anyone know if there’s any fakes to watch out for? They have gone up in price since I last bought one so want to make sure there isn’t many fakes out there.
And yes appreciate this is a strange question!

I'm not aware of any specific Seat Sport knock-offs but you might be able to find something similar on Alibaba or Alixpress.

There are people that refurbish them as well as I managed to bag one a couple of years ago from a guy in Bulgaria iirc.

My one has seen better days. I'd love to have it refurbed but the plastic has those nasty hairline cracks in it and would probably fall to pieces if I stared at it for too long.:(

Not being sold any longer, Crazy prices now for decent condition second hand.

I was lucky to get one of the last in Spain from VAG specialist couple of years back.
You can still buy the 5 speed. But not going to look that good on a 6 speed.

It’s the Alibaba/Alixpress that got me thinking as they are not exactly known for genuine stuff!

All the genuine ones I’ve had/seen had machined gear numbers (few mm deep) but i have seen one with etched numbers (not event 1/2 mm). Does anyone know if Seat changed its manufacturing process at some point as these seem to be the fake/modified versions - genuine 5 speed bottom with aftermarket 6 speed numbers added.

Any 6 speed meant to be new and unsold previously are gonna be wronguns.
They ran out across Europe 2 years ago. As were discontinued by Seat.
The odd person has unused and boxed sitting in a loft somewhere but none available on general release etc.

I clean mine up once a year. Doesn’t take much to smarten them up tbh.

What do you use? I’m worried about losing the red in the Seat if I try and paint it?

Clean it with cotton buds and isopropyl alcohol.
I’ve painted lettering and numbers with small craft paint brush before and using another bud or cloth with more alcohol wipe surface gently to remove excess paint. Leaving the indent painted.
I’ve used acrylic paint as it’s a decent finish.
Now using a scratch repair paint from Halfords to do letters n numbers as it has a needle tip.
For around the rest I’ve only cleaned it.
I know others have sanded / painted or polished but not found the need yet.
Again if painting acrylic paint usually flattens off really well for a smooth finish. I’d Prob try to spray as the layers would be thinner.

This is my one, I know it's not exactly how it left the factory but I think it looks good still.

How did you take this one apart to change the gear numbers? Looking to take mine apart to refurb but can’t see an obvious way to split it?

Just won this on Ebay for £55.
Advertised as new.
So if there are knock offs this will be one.
If not, its score of the century.
Thats if it turns up lol
