Arrghh...
OK, did a search but found nothing on 1.6 petrol engines...
Noticed about 8 months ago, flashing red light on temp gauge, checked level and it was just below the line on header tank so topped up with water.
about 6-8 weeks back, same thing. Looked about but could not see any leak. Put it down to evaporation.
Yesterday, wife (whose had the car for the last week) reported the same. I only had to add a half a cup of water to top up. Thinking to myself, will get them to check for small leak when in for oil change in 2 weeks time.
Went to school run this morning. No issues.
Went to school run this afternoon, light flashing before I got out of the drive. Checked when I got outside the school, NO COOLANT AT ALL IN HEADER TANK!
Drove carefully back to home. Temp did not rise above normal (but it was only a 4 km run). Pointless looking for a leak as it's raining like it was when Noah built the ark. I have the wife's Ibiza for work tonight.
So, any idea where to start? I have some yellow mayo on the inside of the oil filler but put that down to short run condensation as the car only has 53K kms on it. Oil level is fine, and car is running lovely, so think and hope it's not head gasket.
Is there any typical areas to look for this leak? The sudden loss of the whole contents of the header has me worried though.
