Bang! There goes ... suspension?

Have just popped to the local PO. Gone over a speed bump, about 15-20mph and heard this huge bang on the passenger side from the wheel arch. Sounded like ... erm ... a really large snowball had hit inside the wheel arch.

Driven back to work ok. Brakes work. Can still turn the car. But there is this banging/knocking noise over some bumps, and there was a small bang when turning hard right into the car park here. What's it likely to be? CV Boot? Suspension? Springs? Shocks? Under tray come off?

Still double check the spring as you sometimes can hardly tell the difference sitting on the road. A friends diesel Vectra spring snapped on the flat at the top and you wouln't have known just by looking at the way the car sat.

Either way both sound like the obvious culprits and need looking at.

most likely a broken coil spring. mine had this when i bought it. you could barely tell as it broke near the top, and was only half a coil. stick your hand in there and see if you can feel it moving, or even take it out if it's only a little piece.
i could hear it knocked as it went over bumps and corners..

cost a fortune to replace as i bought 2, and having the whole suspension taken out and put back, plus getting all the tracking done isn't cheap :(

I wouldn't stick a hand in just in case the car settles - id look with a torch first :)

And the answer is .... snapped spring! I'd driven several miles like that between work and the garage, was advised that wasn't best!

Will all be fixed by first thing tomorrow. Pat on the back for those with the correct answer. :)
