Was wondering if battery replacement is covered under warranty had to call out seat assist when the car wouldn't start turns out the battery is broken, they took a voltage reading and had to jump start. They said they were not sure if the battery was covered after a year. The car is getting looked at tomorrow joust wondering if I am going to have to fork out for a replacement. The car was registered august 2010 so still under warranty.

The mechanic said its needs a new battery, rather than just going flat, they tested the voltage and a came up at 6 volts, just waiting to see exactly what the problem was.

If your existing battery is tested and proves to be good, there is a software upgrade that fixes batteries going flat when the car is left unused for a couple of days .

If the battery is scrap, then it's unlikely that Seat will give you a new battery under warranty, but I'd chance my arm and ask for replacement anyway. You never know.... ;)

Batterys are covered under warranty, whether it be a battery failure itself or subsiquential to another problem,
You will definatley need the s/w update on the central electrics and if the battery wont recover after a charge then that will be replaced also,

if there is a software fix for batteries going flat, and that a key point to battery life is maintaining a good charge and not allowing it to go flat often then isnt there a link between the known problem and potentially battery life?
Id point this out and expect a replacement. After all, if you buy a fairly decent battery you get 3-4 years warranty.

Hello there,

Last week i have left my 1.2 tsi dsg unused for 48 hours and when i was back my battery was flat. I called the Seat assistance and they recharged my battery (jump start).

My car is just 2 months old right now. It is not possible for a battery to die in this short time as far as i know.

So, i am curious about the software update you guys were talking about. What does it change?

Sincerely,

As per my previous post....Batterys are covered under warranty.

So today I left my car @ Volkswagen due to oil issues and battery problems aswell.

They asked me if I leave my car with the alarm on.. I said yes.. Then the guy told me it is fine for the battery to loose the charge if I leave the car for 4 days with the alarm turned on. What do you guys think about this?

Also I received a call some minutes ago.. They are keeping my car for 3 days because Volkswagen asked them to run 200miles to make some tests.

Lets see what it turnes out.

Yes it is indeed a load .......

IIRC the handbook tells you that if the car is unused for several WEEKS the flashing led in the door is turned off to save the battery. This means that the alarm itself draws very little current indeed.

I'll take a look at the handbook then and make sure they dont lie to me.

Most of the cars have alarm systems it is not the case with them so, why does the ibiza have such problems?

I ll have my ibiza checked in saturday. i ll talk with a specialist to learn in detail. then i can share their answers with you guys.

Right basically many things happen while the car is in a deep sleep, Due to the common parts between audi vw porsche and skoda etc it will wake up quite a few times more than some other marques, the fact is all the software update will be is a flash to the bcm telling it to either go to sleep quicker or they have ignored something like the pcm or hvac that is draining current.

It is possible for a fully awake car to flatten a battery in a couple of minutes if everything is awake and kicking.

However i didn't accept just the update on mine as I am a specialist in this area i got them to replace the battery due to the number of times i have had it go flat on me, there is no way the charge capacity of the battery is uneffected.

Cause there will be more vin cheques waking up the HS bus ? You won't find a specialist at a seat garage tbf. Maybe in barcelona.

Phone call from the dealer today. After testing turns out the battery is faulty and is being replaced on thursday with a new one under warranty and the oil consumption to be tested aswell.

update on my situation, i have contacted to a friend that works at Skoda distributor company in Turkey, i have found out that this is a common issue which is related to the steering system and can be resolved with a software update.

have a good one
