When I painted my callipers I cleaned them first with alloy wheel cleaner to remove the grime and then left them to dry. I then used a wire brush to get rid of most of the rust. After that I smoothed everything by using 100 grit sand paper. Make sure you smooth them down well otherwise the paint finish will be poor.

The paint will probably take 24 hours to fully harden but that won't stop you putting the wheels back on....just make sure you don't knock the alloys against the fresh paint!!

Wire brush and specialist cleaner works well to clean - but be prepared for lots of rust in your eyes and a very achy elbow from all the back and forth motion, oooerrr :D
