Big Problem!

it does this if you click over the ignition to position 2 (just before the final turn to fire it up) and if you have the bonnet up you will hear a high pitched whine from around the inlet manifold, once this stops the throttle body has re-aligned itself, make sure you do this after taking the battery off. its worth a try mate and it costs nothing to test. i thought my maf was fine as i tried unplugging it before i'd re-set the ECU and it showed no difference. it only made a difference once i'd re-set the ECU and got the boost back.

Thanks for the help fella i shall give this a try tmoz and let you know how i get on ;)

The duff coilpack will smell like it's burnt. You can just replace that one, but they will all go eventually. I had three go within a month.

so best thing to do is take one out at a time and rev it to see if it runs up the revs smoothly.

running with 3 should be fine yes?

3 in a month! WHAT!!!

1) You don't necesarily have to rag it for a coil pack to go, I had 3 go within 6 weeks of a Revo map and on no occasion was I gunning it when they went. I believe it's the vibrations from the road that weaken them and cause failures but a map will also put extra strain on them too.

2) It's always a good idea to replace a full set when one goes as the remaining 3 are put under extra pressure to make up for the failed one, weakening them and often shortening their life span (hence why many people see 2-3 go within a few weeks of each other)

3) The eggy smell is the CAT because the resulting misfire from a buggered coilpack may cause the car to run rich, injecting too much fuel into the engine, leaving the CAT to burn off the excess and hence causing a smell.

4) Just to be clear here - sparks and coils are two different entities. On the Cupra you have one coil sat above each spark plug on top of each cylinder. The best and quickest way to check which coil may be broken is to unclip the connector to each cylinder's injectors one by one. If the coil is working properly then the engine will run noticeably rougher (misfire) when you disconnect the injectors. A broken one will have no further effect as it is already broken.

Coils dont go all the time. Its more the fact that you have just had your re-map and its put strian on a weak pack causing it to blow.

You havent put the car in to a garage to have a coil pack replaced have you?

All you do is pull it out by hand and put push the new one in, takes 10secs. Later revision coilpacks should last alot lot longer. I've been on the same set for 2yrs now.

Its somthing that can be changed at the side of the road in minutes, even the one under the charge pipe. Ive had the car for almost 18months now and havent had to replace one (touches wood) Thats running stg1 for 6 months and k03s stg2 for the rest. I asked the bloke when i bought it if he had changed any coil packs and he had`nt since he owned it so chirst knows how long mine have been in. Proberly due one soon:think:
