Hey everyone, long time no speak, my cars been garaged for months but i can drive it again!

considering a black smoke remap http://www.blacksmoke.co.uk/ has anyone heard of them and know if they are any good?

Its a generic remap for the ibiza says its 163 BHP which should be ok.

its 45 pounds but requires a cable. this is where im confused as it says MPPS or Gellortto, i have no idea what either of them are, the website they recomend the cable is 1200 pounds! but on ebay theres one for 99p :S

what do we think? or is there anyone with the cable that for a few quid would put it on for me if i bought the map? thanks a lot!

Pretty sure that's a guide to buy knock off cables on ebay, and you almost might as well buy a CD from ebay with a load of maps on, for a few hundred cars....

If it goes wrong though, you've bricked your ECU - £700 for a new one, or worse if it affects your engine

well the comapany states they will repair the ECU if their software breaks it, aparently MPPS will save the original settings so you can revert back to it should there be an issue

buy cheap and expect nothing but trouble get it done by a reputable mapper with a rolling road and full diagnostic equipment I would never subject my pride and joy to a cheap DIY remap

Who's being sarcastic? You will regret it at some point. Get it done by someone who knows what they are doing. It might be cheaper than the big boys but that's generally because it will be sh*t.

Nooooooo, please don't DIY.

I've had loads of experience with 5 turbo cars now and never once attempted or wanted to re-map myself.

Save a bit longer and get done by the professionals.

You know it makes sense, it'll cost far more if it goes bang.

So because you have had 5 turbo cars and you didn't do it he shouldn't do it?

As he said the cars cheap,he's willing to take the risk and know he might funk stuff up,but he accepts that. If it was an expensive car and he was worried about the risk I'd say no as well but he seems open to the idea.

I'd go go for it, I doubt very much a lot of the re maps we buy are a lot different, we just buy into a name/brand because it make up feel better about what we bought.

Do it mate.

IMHO I am saying don't do it.

Cheap or not £500 or £1000 it's a waste of money to play Russian roulette with a car and just throw it away.

Whether or no loaded with cash or not, it's still chucking money down the drain when you could put it towards a newer vehicle and sell this after enjoying it.

I can't see the logic of trying something that may or may not work, blow an engine. Scrap the car and then buy another and start again.

By all means go for it, this is my opinion and I hope it goes ok.

Love you all ;-) x

"Professionals" ? Is that someone who has seen a market opportunity, rented a unit for 6 months, invented a name and charges £240 for "2 hrs" work. No RRoad before/after, but he has access to the internet.....and knows where your cars diagnostic port is.

Ive seen a lot of "pro's" springing up recently, funnily enough talked to one yesterday. After that chat, listening to the "talk", I would have a go myself.....but that's just my opinion.

By all means go for it.

I've used "professionals" such as;

Rising sun performance ( now dyno tuner )

Mgt Motorsport

Thor racing

Please feel free to advise they are not very good.

It's my opinion only, I'm 51 not 15 so please take on board constructive opinions as yes I've been there done that.

Don't shoot the messenger who gives advise as you are to go for it.

Go onto the skyline owners forum which I've been a member for 6 years (same user name) and ask there opinion including the 8- 10 ultra professional tuners, then make your decision.

I still love you all. Lol ;-)

Could I suggest to anyone trying this, that doing VCDS logs preferably before, but is mandatory after for safety. I helped someone out a few weeks ago (one of a few I've assisted) after flashing a blacksmoke file, there was critical over boost. This was not necessarily a software fault but all cars will react slightly differently to the same software depending on the condition of components / sensors etc. Always make sure it's doing what it should.

If you want to buy a BS map they do give more power but I'd be worried about damage to the rest of the car. The ecu is the easiest part to deal with if it goes wrong, it can either be reflashed with the original file or replaced but who's going to guarantee the turbo, injectors, pistons etc?
That's the real issue, injectors out of balance, turbo pushing harder than it should, pistons can easily get damaged by bad fueling. People think because there's more power then the map is decent but you only need to shove more fuel in and add a bit of boost to clean up the burn to get a power hit.
Also considering this is in the Mk4 ibiza section the car can't be that bad? Must still be worth a few quid at that age?

With that said though the mpps cable works a treat.
