have anyone tried in the past on a 1.2 or any other ibiza applicable,on the throttle body there's a EGR input with causes hot and contaminated air into the intake system. What id like to do is take the pipe off the throttle body and let it vent external and make a blanking plug so the throttle body only takes in cold clean air which "should" = better performance. thats if the ECU doesnt disagree and flag up and error. Any past expirience or opinion would be great help :)

EGR Bypass are very common for 1.9TDI's

I wanted to do it to my 1.4TDI but the parts arent the same

I Believe you can turn off the EGR via vagcom but it hasnt got as good effect as bypassing it

cheers mate, so do you remove the EGR valve completely or make blanking plates for both sides of the pipe that runs from the valve to the throttle body? because my idea was to just unbolt the pipe from the throttle body ,make a blanking plate for the side of the throttle body and leave the EGR pipe vent external?

Theres a Kit for the 1.9tdi made by allard motorsport i think you remove the valve and replace it with a Pipe

so if i remove the EGR completely worse thing could happen would be the engine management light would come on, without modifying it on VAG com?

I made up a blanking plate today out off steel and put it on the throttle body connection and left the EGR pipe vent externally and drove home from work (about 20miles). The engine revs a little quicker and picks up hell of a lot better from low as 1500rpm anyone get the chance of doing it give it a go.

Sounds like a nice little mod mate! We used to go this on the 2ltr Zetecs and Ecotecs etc... You have any probs with dash warning lights etc???

Cheers

From what I understand of it you can adjust the EGR settings in Vag com (no idea where) but you can actually turn it off - you can set it so the parameters are never met which means the EGR doesn't kick in.

This will stop the engine management light coming on.

Or just disconnect the EGR then live with the engine management light until you get it remapped..... JBS sorted the EGR engine management light when I had my PD130 remapped.

Might be worth giving JBS a call for some advice?

yes the engine management light stays on but its worth it when you get better fuel efficiency and know theres no crap going back through the engine only clean cold air :D

exhaust recirculation valve

More info I found on what it does ...

Pros

* The EGR valve is vital to your car's emission controls.

Cons

* When the EGR valve goes bad, it must be replaced.

Description

* EGR Valve = Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve.
* The EGR valve controls formation of noxious emissions.
* Rough idle and poor acceleration can be caused by a faulty EGR valve.

Guide Review - EGR Valve
The EGR valve, or Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve, is a vacuum controlled valve which allows a specific amount of your exhaust back into the intake manifold. This exhaust mixes with the intake air and actually cools the combustion process. Cooler is always better inside your engine. The exhaust your EGR valve recirculates also prevents the formation of Nitrogen related gases. These are referred to as NOX emissions, and are a common cause for failing emissions testing. Unfortunately, your EGR valve can get stuck, causing NOX gases to build up. You'll know if your EGR valve is stuck or malfunctioning because your car will experience symptoms like rough idle and bucking on accelertaion.
