How hard/easy is it to chance my red dials to the funky plue ones used in the VW models??
Is it just a case of changing the bulbs/LED's, or am i looking at a more complicated method.

No bulbs to change, Surface mount LEDs instead! How good is your soldering??? Easy if you can source LEDs and solder but I would not attempt it if your not sure!

Solder is easy enough to get, but the correct indigo/blue LEDs are far harder to find. I've been looking into this quite a bit recently, as I've just fitted a boost gauge to my Mk4 Golf. The colour is dependant on the wavelength of the LED, most blue LEDs are 470nm, the VW ones are 430nm. RS and Maplins do stock LEDs with 430nm wavelength, but their output (brightness) is tiny. I.e. I currently have some very bright 470nm LEDs fitted which are just bright enough with an output of 1300 mcd. I can only get 430nm LEDs with an out put of 60 mcd.

Can anyone suggest a good place to get very bright LEDs of the correct colour?

Thats an option, although I bet they won't want to sell parts from the clocks. I have thinking about getting an old Mk4 head unit, as they are very common.
