Help every one I have a leon fr 150 tdi, there's a hissing noise when the turbo kicks in from the bottom right hand side of the engine, I've looked around but can't seem to find anything. Is there anybody in the vicinity of bham who can do a boost leak or smoke test for me, or can some one recommend some one around bham, thank you in advance.

Ps:- Im new to this site and this is my first leon, and just wanted to say hello to every one and you Volks got a good little community here, keep up the good work

They do make a hiss sound which is normal, more like a whistle. Bottom right of car is pancake pipe and intercooler inlet, the joint will prob be oily as its prob leaked.

I heard they make a whistling noise but mine is abit to loud, It had a new turbo fitted not long ago, would a boost leak test tell me where it is leaking from, and is it some thing I can do my self. And thank you for replying.

A smoke tester would reveal any leaks if you can find a garage with one.

Else, check all the pressure pipework joints and make sure the metals ends of the hoses are a close fit against the ends of the pipes they fit into. The gap shouldn't be any more than 1-2mm. The locating prongs on the metal ends of the hoses are well know for wearing and allowing the joints to separate and leak. Rubbish design[:@]

Look for oil spatter from leaking joints. Some oil seepage from the lower joints appears to be normal as oil accumulates in the pipework and gets forced past the seals under pressure. But if there's splatter it suggests a leak.

The O-rings sealing the joints were revised at some point from circular section black O-rings to square profile green seals. Would be worth fitting the later seals if the originals are still fitted. You might be able to get the seals from the SERE motors area of this forum, but they are normally only sold with the pipes by dealers.

Finally, the PD150 engine does seem to make a loud hissing noise on boost. I was convinced mine had a leak but I've done all my seals and fitted a new section of pipe to remove any leaks but the noise is still there...
