Boot lock latch fault Fix or Replace?

Hi All this thread is mainly an "information" post, but I also have a question as well, but hopefully anyone that has this issue in the future can find all the info they need here rather than multiple threads

I've searched the forum and found some great information on here.

The issue is, when you press the S logo, a noise which sounds like a grinding/or screwing happens, which sounds like this video (note not my video)

As per the title, I need to swap out the latch on my boot, it seems like from what I've found on here, the wormscrew is broken, there is also a link on this thread;

A mate told me the type of bolt this is, its xzn which im sure you all know But does anyone know what size this one is? I don't want to end up having to buy a 40pc set online for this job and maybe the odd future job.

The etching looks like 8.5 3? But im not sure and cannot seem to find a match on ebay/etc..

Also if you've had this issue before, am i going down the right track here with trying to fix the screw/gear? Or am I better off replacing the latch? Both in terms of ease of fixing VS replacing it and ... is this the issue? I'm obviously sure it must be a fault in this module, but is it actually the wormscrew or am I better off replacing the whole thing?

So to summerise, does anyone know what kind of xzn bolt this is? and am i on the right track with fixing or replacing the faulty part? I hope anyone that sees this thread in the future if they have the same issue finds this useful

I just emailed SEAT asking for a replacement boot latch to be sent to me, should be interesting to see what happens!

In all seriousness I havent had any issue with my car since purchase..its probably been the best make/model I've ever had - regarding faults....etc *zero*. My previous cars all experienced some kind of fault, the renault was the worst, I was replacing parts on that ever few months! In the end a £10 sensor stopped the issue.....but that was after renault themselves refusing to acknowledge the issue... and refusing to help.... and a renault service garage unable to find the issue!!

It needs the latch/lock replaced. Not an expensive part. 5 min job. Held on with two common M6 spline bolts.

Hi, i only just managed to get a tool to take the boot latch off, i tried so hard to take the latch apart but the plastic is so tight i cannot work out how to take it apart?

Im thinking ill just have to buy the whole latch and replace it rather than just the worm screw which is a disappointment.....

Does anyone know how to take the latch apart ? as in the plastic stuff ?

I've got my old latch at home i can have a play taking it apart as it have it spare.

I dont think it actually does come apart,I took apart the door locks and rebuilt those , but the boot lock seems to be moulded shut

One thing I did notice on the locks was that the nylon coating on the door lock "jaws" wears away and the bits of it seize the jaws from moving smoothly,and so they stick or dont move through full motion.
thenylon is there to stop the door clanging/sounding cheap when closing it,so my "cure" after removing the coating was to wrap the door lock bracket that is fitted to the car with teflon tape ,no more clang,

The plastic shroud does come off. I took mine off to figure out what was going on when my latch broke.

You need to prise it clear of the 4 metal lugs on the inner facing side of the latch, then it'll pull off.
