Thanks for all the comments fellas (and ladies?). The aa guy came today and said it's had at least a front impact collision. The repairs are of dubious quality. all of which Jabbasport told me, but it's nice to have the independent report there if things do go nasty.

For all of you wondering which garage to avoid, i'll contact him first and see what his reaction is. If it's bad i'll let you all know in big red flashing letters! If he's reasonable about it, i don't see any reason putting him on the black list.

Just building up the courage to call :)

Definitely start out reasonable and friendly, despite what people say, most places are not run by idiots and will try and help you out. Even if trading standards have to be involved there's no need to start shouting even if others do.

I think you're fairly well covered to be honest - good luck and don't wait ... just get on the phone and get it started!

i would advise not putting details up until resolved. If you get a neg responce and then slag em off, you'll end up in more **** yourself. to be honest SCN will just have to remove it to avoid legals from the garage anyway

Done it! Felt sick before hand though (i know, i'm a wuss etc.)

Anyway, blokey said he'd sold my old Ibiza (and had to do a repair on a cracked turbo intake, which i'm not sure he did). Then he offered to buy it back from me for £7500 (i bought it for £8500). I politely declined and mentioned the AA report and I'd be happy to send him a copy etc.
He claims he sold the car without knowing it had those problems. This, i think, smells a bit like bullshit cos he said he had to do a repair on my car, which obviously means taking a look at it mechanically, but at the same time he says he sold the leon to me without knowing about the problems. Did he just forget to get it checked over? hmmm!

I said i was going to speak to trading standards as i am entitled to a full refund. That's my next job. I feel a lot better after calling now. Even though he fed me some bullshit, he didn't say "F off" which hopefully, with a bit of trading standards gubbins will see me get a full refund. Also a guy at work has offered to lend me his Vectra till i find a new car.

See what trading standards say, you could ponder asking him if you can see the invoice for work he had to do to yours to sell it and deduct that off the £8500 you paid for the Leon - depends on how quickly and amicably you want a resolution.

However although i'm probably stating the blind obvious - do NOT drive the Leon anywhere, not even down to his garage until a conclusion is reached. If he wants it, he can come and collect it as i'd be concerned about that gearbox case coming apart on the road - that won't speed things up.

£7500 says he has some sort of conscience, why would he offer to buy it back if he wasnt in the wrong.

U'll be fine mate, just hope it gets resolved in a timely manner for you to find a proper (legit) beast.

Got the AA report through today and the guy listed 25 "essential repairs", although the body work he said was fine. Spoke to Trading standards/Consumer direct and they gave me a nice template letter to send him. So, once that's sent he's got 10 days to do something about it or it's back to trading standards and they said that i've gone over and above what i needed to to prove the cars a dud which is good if things go nasty.

I'm quite up-beat now even though i'm having to get the train into work. Hopefully it'll all be sorted within 2 weeks.
