Brake Fluid Change

Dear All,

I have a Seat XL 170 and there is a sticker on the windows that says that there has to be a brake fluid change at 7000 miles. Is this necessary the car is on a 08 plate and has done 5500 miles?

as afar as I was aware its every 2 years. give David @ Seremotors forum here he should be able to confirm what is required.

I have an XL 170 and my sticker said at 20,000 miles brake fluid change, and it has been done on the second annual service.

Yep confirmed by a dealer in Nottingham. Every two years or 20,000 miles!

Can i also suggest that you fix the title, Break is to break as in broken, brake is the word you are looking for....

I seem to remember reading a thread in the Mk2 Leon section about Seat recommending the brake fluid is changed after 8,000miles from new, and then every 2 years/20,000 miles from then on......

If SEAT recommend it then why is it not in the warranty service schedule?

Methinks the brake fluid replacement is a little moneyspinner for the dealer network.

I recall someone buying a second hand car from a dealer on the understanding that it would be serviced before handover. They didn;'t do the brake fluid as requested, so he contacted Seat who told him it wasn't a service item, merely an advisory so didn't need to be done as part of the service.

Money spinner for me too.

It most likely is a money spinner for dealers, i bled a lot of the old fluid through the system and it did help the brake feel, stiffer pedal and visible colour difference of the new and old fluid.

I bought my car fro SEATR dealer - manual quite clearly states brake fluid change at 2 years. I bought car on wriotten condition that every service item including fluids had been done according to servcie schedule. Brake fluid hadn't been ticked at 2 year/20K so after a lot of arguing, SOG threats etc they did it. They were unhappy when I asked to watch it being done......

You had every right to see it being done, plus you see how its done for reference when car out warranty..

Exactly. Call me a cynic but they could have just driven car in to bay and back out again. At this particular dealership only half the grease monkies bays are visible thru glass wall.
