Brake pad - Centre line slot ???!!!???

Hiya,

I was helping a mate change his pads on his car and noticed they had slots in the middle of the pads. I asked why this was at the dealer and they said it gets rid of brake dust from under the pads and also said its possible to saw ones in any pads.

Ive read up a bit about the centre line slots and it claims it can reduce drake fade, give the pads better efficiency and reduces noise.

So im wondering, can i saw slots in the centre of the pads or is that a totally stupid idea and ill probably have cracked pads by the end of it

Less contact area springs to mind.

not a great deal of lost contact area

depends what your gonna 'slot' them with
you will most likely end up cracking the pad

Yeah i thought they would crack too.

Dont think i will do it, was just curious to what they are for really.

its more than likely to allow the pad to expand when hot
