I have what appears to be brown/yellow staining on my alloys but it's only right up against the spokes so imagine its brake dust and dirt that has been stuck on for a while. Tried giving them a scrub with a sponge and just normal car wash stuff but it didn't budge it. Can anyone recommend anything?

I had the same on my alloys, tried alloy wheel cleaner and it came of a bit but the marks were still visible.

I tried using a clay bar with detailing spray and it took it off a treat, alloys are now sparkling, worked really well. You may want to give that a try!

yeh try the clay bar or get some proper alloy wheel cleaner.
wonder wheels is good but does contain acid

You could try some "compound" on them ie. T-cut, G3 or similar.
Another good thing for keeping alloys clean is Autosmart G101, which is not acidic.
It also gets rid of spattered flys etc very well.

Hope that helps.
