Hi guys, just had a new exhaust system fitted today from the downpipe back.

I previously had one of them ebay 3" downpipe and stepped down decats on the car for about 6-7months and there was no strange/unsual smell from that.

Now theres a smell of what I can only describe as cinema/popcorn.

The new system is 3" pipe back from a 4" 200cpi sports cat to a new back box.

I've done a google and what comes up is that could be the clutch or coolant?
Some say the clutch is on its way out or slipping or both. Weird seeing as the smell is from the exhaust only and not in the bay. Also, the clutch felt just like it always has.

The bit about a coolant being the cause is they suggest a leak somewhere onto a hot surface. I can't see any puddles under the car or in the bay (thermostat housing, rad pipes etc) and my level hasn't changed.

Any ideas?

If you just got a new cat it's prob that mate, it's should go away after a few weeks

What you describe does sound like coolant on a hot surface. But there is no logical reason why it would be as they should be nowhere near any coolant lines when changing the exhaust.

Just keep an eye on levels, if it's exhaust/sealant related it should stop pretty quickly after a few heat cycles

Yeah, hopefully it is just the newness of the system and nothing serious. Like I said, the coolant level hasn't changed and theres no obivous wetness or puddles on the floor.
