But, how does it compare to the Tiguan?

Well, lets have a look!

Edit: Comparison is against the current (as of September 2024) model of the Tiguan.
The Tiguan successor will have better options (matrix pack, etc.) and be more in-line with the current VW platform as per the pic below:

Presumably at least a couple of grand extra, like-for-like, as they seek to push the brand upmarket 😁

Doh! Should have read to the end of the article. But I still maintain that in the UK, the Terramar will end up more expensive. The pricing comparison in the article isn't helpful as it refers to the Tiguan in base spec with the same engine, but that isn't available here - you have to go up to Life trim to get the 150hp engine which the Terramar comes with, and that sets you back £36,720 before any options.

I thought, pricing-wise, it goes Audi > VW > Seat/CUPRA > Škoda?
(Obviously Porsche, Bentley, Lamborghini etc above those above)

It always was but I have certainly seen some articles showing VW Prices being cheaper than Cupra (Seat is a disappearing brand so not sure what there price levels are)

Mine was taken already

Nearly impossible to work out which is most 'expensive' due to spec differences between brands. Skoda is not positioned asa budget brand anymore and owner forums complain about pricing. It's positioned as a 'family' brand so the cars are often bigger than the other VAG products. Cupra is aimed squarely at the sports end - lower and therfore 'smaller'. Like for like Cupra is better specced and while LFL cheaper for now as it strengthens as a brand based on what they did with Skoda, will get more expensive over time. Seat by all accounts will end up as Dacia competitor.

It's certainly not a hierarchy anymore, it's aiming at different market sectors. If there is a hierarchy Cupra is the junior sporty brand to Audi, Skoda the junior comfort brand to VW.

Brand segmentation. My two pennies worth. The young at heart is what they are aiming for with money. They have blurted out their marketing word a few times in their Cupra launches... forgot it now. The Cupra lass you see. Get the word that I've forgotten and that's their target market 🤣. Will edit it in...

Tribe. The mute question is whether the identified tribe is big enough to sustain the brand. It's a play thing they do in their launches now. Formentor being more upmarket to the Leon 4 with its own body. The Cupra Ateca being more upmarket to the Seat Ateca. Then they killed off Seat for new models. So the question is whether the Cupra tribe bling sells cars over other brands. I'd say it's positioned at a youthful Audi market but quirky design. Seat adopted the Alfa styling when they got the design guy (156), then it went Germanic with neo classical design in the Leon 3, 2 was Alfa or was it 1 ?... the door handles. Not sure where they are now in their design language for Cupra except waving their hands over bits of panel. The designers leave.

I see there is an Auto express interview looking to the end of the decade on Cupra and their need to break into the American market.

well I can only add to this that VAG or maybe just VW are having a hard time in the new world.

Volkswagen (VOWG_p.DE), cut its annual outlook for the second time in less than three months on Friday, citing a weaker-than-expected performance at its passenger car division as pressure on Europe's top automaker continues to rise.

We will have to see how the EU Tariff on Chinese Motors impacts both car prices and world trade with tit for taa tariff (hopefully not)

The UK is out of the China tariffs so we'll see lots of Tavascans cheap . The fall in EV prices worldwide will have chilled the European markets that were counting on the EV pricing structure in their profit margins. Bulk production in China producing the fall of EV prices, not that there is anything wrong with them, getting the price point. Wonder whether they will bring Cupra EV production back to Europe, we'll see.

The dealer was saying Seat would get an EV in a couple of years time... word from the top.

So what happend to the SEAT Brand being closed down and never having an EV because it was a dying brand....

Who knows. May be the head of Seat UK was spinning a yarn. They have a problem with the Seat dealerships and how they sell Cupra but perhaps 10 years isn't on their planning horizon / they don't plan to sell Cupra badged cars in the same numbers as Seat. Petrol heads in the local dealership although EVs are being driven locally, quite a few these days. Catching up with them.
