Hi all

I thought I knew enough about buying a TFSI engined vehicle (Never owned before but had a 1.4 TSI and a 1.8T and every other VAG lump ever made).

I knew they could burn a bit of oil but not a major amount... however after wathcing watchdog the other day and seeing it take a liter after just 208 miles or something, IM SCARED!

How is the best way to go about buying a Cupra without this issue? Any years that dont suffer from it or anything I can look at on VAG com?

Cheers

The Watchdog feature related to the newer generation EA888 engine.

The older TFSI Oil consumption shouldn't be that bad - certainly nowhere near the levels mentioned in that programme. Better/thicker oil usually helps to reduce oil consumption too.

Pop off an intercooler pipe and check for excess oil maybe turbo seals also worth checking while hot on idle if blue smoke is noticeable maybe valve stem seals

It depends if you plan to tune the car heavily or not. There is nothing wrong with the BWA lump in the FR TFSI unless heavily tuning (Bigger turbo etc.)

Max I will go would be stage 2. I wouldn't go BT as this is a daily and I already have a BT VAG car.

I thourght Id get a Cupra as I get the seats, alloy parts, bigger brakes etc...

Cupra with BWJ makes the most sense, more preferable to the FR for the reasons you state. Only reason for getting a BWA FR is if you want DSG really (the K03 stage one is 250hp odd).
