hi all, after selling my belovid cordoba a few months ago, i have come into a stable financial position, so am looking at the 2.0 16v cordy. more to the point, the one that has the WRC spoiler, different rims, green air filter etc. are there any problems i should be aware of other than the gearbox, electrics and air con? also, its just over 3 hours drive from my home, is it worth it?

iv been offered a really good price, its a v reg-1999, in yellow, completely standard, it just has a skirt missing, its got a full service history, 12 months mot, 5 months tax and no rips on the interior.

There's no F in Quality..
check the milage and amount of time since it had a cambelt change. More than 60k or 4 years, and I'd be looking at getting it done asap.

also have a good look at the rocker cover gasket, can be prone to leaking. £12 for parts, and a 2hour job to DIY it, so not the end of the world.

with it being Bengal yellow, I'd have a look at the various shades of each of the panels.... it's a bit like the Ovni Yellow on the Mk3 Ibizas, it fades very easily on the roof, bonnet and wings....

No wear on the interior is a good sign ;)

What milage is it on ?

its done just over 60k, so am lookin at gettin the cambelt done when i go have a look at it on friday :) will look at the paint and rocker gasket, might be able to get a bit more off if its got any more defects.

iv also been told the traction control can play up after time, so gona check that too.

i spoke to the owner earlier, he says its got all the receipts from new, inc. any work thats been done.

will check that out, i think the block might be takin the p*** a little, so am gona haggle him right down. im goin to view the car tomorrow, so hopefully all is well. if i buy, i will put up some pics sometime on saturday so all coments and things i might have missed are welcome.

i intend on bringing it back to its origional condition with a few sensible mods ie lower, upgrade the stereo system, repair and replace anythin it needs.

ive been to view the car, not impressed, there is a big dent in the rear quater, it wouldnt have been too bad but it runs from the door to the rear lense, and is directly over the body line. not gettin it, but still got my eyes open...

2.0 16V Cordys DO have traction control! Its done via the ABS sensors they detect the front wheels slipping and vary the power from wheel to wheel using the braking system, its crap and only works up to 20kmh anyway.

As for what can go wrong........ well heres what mine clocked up over two years
*radiator
*head gasket
*clutch
*clutch cable
*gear linkage
*pedal box
*brakes all round
*went through tyres like crazy
*hand brake
*expansion tank
*clutch cable number 2
*fuel lines
*brake lines
*wheel bearings
*CV boots
*bits of distributor
*and loads more that i can't recall, it had done 120k tho.

Cost in bits and labour over 2 years £4,000.

If your looking for fun reliability steer clear of the 16v! get an 8v!

Major major thing to check is the transmission, if the clutch is heavy avoid would be my advice as your gonna need pedal boxes, cables the works!

Also the wired gear change is a pig!

All this said................. i'm getting another one at some point :D

My cordy had covered 149K with none of the above faults so dont let it deter you. Just something to bear in mind is all.

cupra Kid - Sounds to me like your car was one that was built last thing on a Friday afternoon mate. Knock it together quick and head off to the pub job lol
