Looking for some advice on this

This will be the first time ive changed the brakes on this car and was looking into getting a tool to push back the piston in the calipers but upon looking for one i see some that are saying about winding them in like a thread

Is this the case with the Leon (1.6 tdi)

i had only ever seen ones that had a flat edge that just pushed the piston back in until i looked online just now

If it's front pads, I usually manage by using a very large flat bladed screwdriver to lever the pads back before removing the calipers. For the rear pads you will need a tool for winding back the pistons, usually different for left and right hand side of car.
Cannot be used on cars with electric parking brake.

Front pistons should just push back with a g clamp or similar, they have on all other cars I've owned. Rear pistons are wound back with the tool as they wind in and out due to the handbrake. Tool is cheap enough and well worth it for ease. It's then just a case of winding again as it turns and applies pressure like the g clamp simultaneously.

Out of curiosity how would you change the pads with electric handbrake? Only reason I ask is that I've now got one but a long way off doing pads just yet.

May be the same thing....

Oh blimey, slightly more intensive than manual handbrake then but a lot less physical and probably quicker too then
