I bought an 06 Leon 2.0 TDI Reference Sport about a year ago when it was 3 years old. It appears to have had the cam belt changed by a dealer at 2 years old (around 15K miles) and when I took it for it's 3 year service (local dealer) I was told it was due for a cam belt change on the next service (4 years). So question is are these belts supposed to be changed every 2 years or was the first change supposed to be done at 4 years? I am doubting it really needs doing at all at 4 years and 35K miles especially when it's already on its second belt. However I don't want the bill for a new engine!! Any ideas???

the first change was too early. So your current cambelt on there is 1 year old from what i can gather, plenty of life left in it, cant recall the exact period for the 2L TDI but i would do a search back through, but i would presume you have at least another couple of years before a new belt is needed (mileage dependant).

Thanks - If I believe the service log then belt is 2 years old and has done about 23K, if log is wrong then it is 4 years old and done 38K. What would the expected change interval be? probably safest to assume it has never been changed regardless of the tick in the book....

I wouldn't go off just a tick in the book you need to contact the dealer who did it to confirm.
The interval as set by seat is fixed at 4 years or 40,000/ 60,000 miles, which ever comes first (there are some slight differences dependent on the engine).
