Had the cam belt on the LCR about a month or so ago and yesterday the check engine light came on. Managed to read the codes out tonight and got

2 DTCs Found:
16396 - Cam-Timing Adj. Bank 1: Retard Setpoint Not Reached
35-00 - -
16727 - Camshaft Position Sensor (G40): Signal too High
35-10 - - - Intermittent

Does this sound like a co-incidence or is it likely the cam belt hasn't been fitted properly?

Going to be calling Camberley Seat tomorrow to try and get it booked in again but wondering where I stand

Pete

Do they come back if you erase them? a timing fault will normally re-appear within a few seconds of the engine running.

Bit odd though if its taken a month to come back on.

You usually get a camshaft correlation fault not those two anyhow. I think the first fault will cause the second anyhow. If the timing adjuster on the cam chain is sticking then it will throw the cam position sensor out.

No the chain end isnt touched on a belt change.

Is your engine making any unusual noises, struggling to start, lost any performance?

The tensioner damper could have failed or the tensioner come loose there are alot of possibilities, just take it back to the dealer and ask them to check the timing.

To be honest, I don't like Camberley Seat anyway, when I went in there they seemed like they didn't care about the problems my car had and didn't want to help. My mate has his car in there too and they had to remove the front bumper for a repair and didn't put it back on properly. It came loose and nearly fell off whilst he was driving it!
On the issue you have though, i'd check the tensioner damper as already said.

As an updtae, just got back form Camberley Seat. It's not the cambelt, but the timing is out. So they're having to strip bits down to find out the fault. Just by the look on the guys face I get the feeling this bill is gonna hurt :(

The chain cannot jump but can become slack due to low oil pressure not acting on the hydrolic tensioner. This may cause a timming fault. The car would run fine without any loss of power but would have a slight delay at speed when accelerating and sometimes the oil light would come on, well this is something we have seen on some 20vt engines with 90k+ miles on the clock. The oil feed pipe tends to block up causing the above symptoms.
