Hi everyone my car has developed what could be a bit of a serious issue.
I started the car today and noticed it didn't sound right at all. in fact it sounded like a tractor. shortly after i got an Oil pressure warning and turned the car off. Checking under the bonnet i could see oil and been leaking and had been thrown a round. see picture...
Being at work i was a bit stuck really so i called the AA. The patrol man immediately thought it wouldnt be good. he took the cam pulley cover off and discovered the sprockets were loose and not lined up. Apparently i was very lucky they did not come off and avoided the inevitable engine wrecking. The oil appears to have leaked from the camshaft seals.
The car has only done approx 30000 miles and had its first major service in January. It is out of its seat warranty since december and just left its "approved" warranty on the second of april.
The AA patrol man was of the opinion it shouldnt have happened to a car this young. And advised me to take it to the main dealer in the hope of getting some contribution to fixing it.
Its now sat in a dealer waiting over night to be looked at tomorrow. I've been informed by a member of a Leon group on Facebook that it could be the "Cam variator" and that in his time with VW he had replaced a few on 1.2 and 1.4 tsi engines. In fact a few engines had to be replaced because of a similar issue and there was a "TPI" for the issue.
Im currently in limbo until the garage get back to me now but if anyone has some advice it would be much appreciated. Thanks all!
