howdo ladies and gents
what it is, is when a start my car in the morning and it is cold it squeeks sounds like the cambelt but my cambelt is chain driven as it is the 1.2 so could i need a new tensioner on it or is it something else the cars done a respectable 70000 miles and herd that you have to get the tensioners checked round about now
has this happend to anyone else cheers for the help in advance

on cold morning what I have and few other members have noticed is the alternator pulley like rattles/squeeks give it a bit of greasing (WD40,White Grease etc.) and should stop doing it on cold start ups for about a week.

the chain wont squeek or anything inside that case for that matter, all thats in there is 2chains, and a couple of guides, a tensioner and some cogs, nothing that is going to cause a squeeking noise like you are describing.;)

As said, your 1.2 cams are chain and sprocket driven.

Toothed belt driven cams don't normally squeek as the belt is toothed and can't slip unless it's megga loose and if it does your valves will get munched up.

Your squeek is probably from the alternator belt, you should look into adjusting the tension or if it's a pre set spring tensioner that can't be adjusted you probably need a new alternator belt.

i dont know how true this is, but i heard from a mechanic in thornaby near were i live that these engines are made so that if the chain does snap it doesnt effect the valves, not sure how true this is but just thought i would pass it on lol

i had a similar problem myself, a belt was squeaking until 10 minutes after the car was started. turns out it was the fan belt, got it changed and its been perfect for around a year

as soon as you hear it just pop the bonnet and have a good look and listen lol, should be fairly clear what is squeeking with a close inspection ;)
