Hi all

So ive been searching and cant find any specific/definate info.

Im good with cars, do all my own servicing but I have read a bit about the oil filter is a pig to get off? Is that correct and is the special tool really needed or can I struggle without...

Also oil, its a 150bhp TDI - so im going with 505.01.. 5 litre? anyone know the price from dealer? and can I get the tool to remove the filter from seat too.

Finally, once drained does anybody know how much to put back in.

Was a right biatch on my Cupra TDi, it was too tight.

Bought one of those chain removal tools similar to this, wouldn't grip enough because it wouldn't quite fit perfect.

Went and bought one of these but the Torque set we had didn't have the correct size square attachment.

In the end the combination of the second tool with the chain gripping that finally managed to be succesful.

You want a 76mm oil filter socket like this one. I got mine in Halfords.

The filter is a paper cartridge that fits into a cylindrical holder which is part of the car. You want to avoid damaging the cap, so it makes sense to get the right tool for the job.

They are 3/8 drive, which means that you'll need an adapter to attach it to a 1/4 or 1/2 inch drive handles.

Chain wrenches are meant for use on disposable cartridge filters, where you don't mind distorting them, they're going to be thrown away.

The new filter should come with new large and small O-rings to fit onto the cap.

For oil guidance check here.

Oil capacity is 4.5 litres, so one five litre can will be all you need.

Project Manager. aka scapegoat, or "yes, it's my fault, now which one of my team were you trying to blame?"

- - - Well, you asked! :)

I got the info about the cup wrench from this forum, so it's only natural to give it back.

I got a strap wrench, that way there's no chance of damaging the cap. Got it from robert dyas for less than a tenner and really good.
