Well the house was broken into on Sat night/Sun morning whilst we were out, and to get away with as much stuff as they could they decided to take the ibiza and load it full of stuff!

Anyway the car was found abandoned on the sunday afternoon in a council estate looking very sorry for itself, It has 2 flat front tyres (next to no tread left), a dent in the front wing, a cracked grille (the bottom 1 at the front) and it wont start!

When the car was recovered they attempted to start it and there was a lot of bluey smoke and oil coming out various different places, was tolf it was probably the timing chain! :( what do u reckon would the insurance pay out on the engine or just the cosmetic damage? not sure if they would be able to prove it was the theft that caused the engine to fail or if it was going to do it anyway...any thoughts?!

Ps. They havent managed to catch the wee :censored:

Really sad to hear that this has happened to you. If its not bad enough that they have done your house over, its taking the car aswell :(

Im not too sure mate, as far as im concerned if it never done it before then there is no reason why you shouldnt be able to claim for it. I think you will have to stick to your guns and explain that all was working well before they got there hands on it.

Sounds like a sorry state of affairs, I really feel for you...

i would of said that they would cover the cost for the engine as the car is showing signs its been trashed around by the theiving B$%^$%ds

as far as I can see mate your car was stole and it got damaged when they stole it. So thus the claim is for theft. Wot mileage did they put on the car then?

They should pay out as its damaged caused by them. It was obviously working before they nicked it otherwise they wouldnt have been able to drive off in it.

Sorry to hear about it matey

thats an awful thing to hear!

i agree, if it was broken before the theft, how did they drive off in it!

speaking from experience, best of luck with the claim!

Dont forget when this has happened before....

If they broke into your house and used the car keys to steal the car, the insurance company MAY turn round and say you must claim on your home insurance... some companies will not pay insurance on a car that is stolen WITH the keys....

I seem to remember a similar thread from AGES ago.. this has never happened to me...

Mike

Insurance companies do replace engines, I order them in for insurance jobs from time to time.

However, with the value of the car and the cost of the engine, they might write it off. I know I'd much prefer the cheque.

Sorry to hear it though, it can't be a fun thing to experience :(

could always make sure its got a few more dents on it to finalise the deal ;)

Oldest trick i know has been used round here is to open both doors... lean on one to bent the hinges down...and then jack the other door up bending the hinges up...ooh bent chassis and shell :)

Sad to hear it though... presuming you were out in the scoob (could be the reason they were planning to break in..)

can i ask, are you covered if your keys are stolen as the insurance comapnies seemt o be pushing this thing of on theft claims you must have the keys to hand. Is there an exemption if they are stolen from your house etc

sounds like a write off to me.

if they break into your house and take keys you are still covered.

most will say you are NOT covered if you leave the keys in the ignition or car.

you have to take reasonable care. having keys in the house is acceptable.
otherwise how much care do you have to take? put it in a locked lead lined safe thats buried under your patio? what do you then do with the key to the safe? swallow it?

ive taken a look at my insurance documents as an example:
this states:
'loss or damage arisiong from theft whilst the ignition keys of your car have been left in or on the car is specifically excluded'

that is well sh1te mate if it was me i would be pushing for them to write it off because if that is what happened to it in one day you cannot be sure if there is any long term damage

omg i really feel for you mate when i get home im going to hide my spare key!!!!! hope insurance replacies everything and maybe more for you mate

and off corse they catch the :w4nk: that done it!!!

Sorry to hear that insurance will have to pay for engine, all you have to prove is that on the "balance of probabilities" the thieves damaged the engine so no probs there

they should pay out if they were stolen from the house, in aug 2005 some gits broke into my girlfriends house whilst we were asleep upstairs and took the keys to both my 6 month old LCR and her BMW, both insurance companies paid out. the keys were hidden but they managed to find them, police said take them to bed with you. but that said if they want the car that bad they will jsut coe get them from you so think i would rather leave them downstairs

This happened to a mate of mine, he got a new stereo (old one nicked), new tyres, new brakes a service and a panel resprayed.

Thing to do is not accept anything you aren't 100% happy with.

Oh and a friend of mine's dad (copper) caught the theiving scaghead ******* that did over my friends house, which was nice.

Yeah Im thinking that, I would want them to write it off too. If someone stole my car I would feel like its been raped by that person
