Carista and codes..

Hello all,

Just a quick one regarding Carista.. I assume it's not 100% accurate in regards to codes it pulls?

The reason I ask is I thought I'd do a diagnostic and two sensor codes have come up under 'infotainment'.. the codes being:

00512 - Camshaft Position Sensor - Not on Reference Mark
00527 - Intake Air Temperature Sensor (G42)

The car doesn't run any differently to the day I purchased it to now... it's a 2016 Leon 5f 2.0 TDI 150, should I be concerned about these codes?

Cheers,
Gav

In my experience of using Carista on a newish model of car, some codes will end up with a wrong description, like my wife's 6C Polo ended up with a EGR issue with its AC system and few other wrong descriptions - but the codes picked up will be correct, so if you can find out what these 2 codes really do mean then you can work out what has been going on.

Edit:- both of these codes are being given valid descriptions by Carista - so I'd reckon that they are relevant regardless of which controller Carista is attributing them to.

So consider sorting these issues out.

I don't trust Carista's diagnostics as far as I could throw it. When I had my tyres changed, it triggered the TPMS and later on I had Carista plugged in, and thought I'd do a scan. It came up with the worrying error of an issue with the ABS system. Just happens the TPMS uses the ABS system.

I paid out for OBDeleven, much better. As you have the Carista adapter, I'd suggest trying the Android app called Torque Lite/Pro. The Lite version is free, and I'm sure it allows you to scan for errors, but maybe not clear them, I can't remember.

I think as always, you do need to know a bit about cars before grabbing any of these tools, just like you do with physical tools, as I said earlier, Carista will always hand out the correct code number, but maybe not its correct description, though in the opening post, it did correctly hand out the fault code description.

If anyone is mug enough to think that buying and using these scan tools turns you into a proper mechanic then I'd say think again, all they will hand out is what the car thinks is wrong - you need to be able to turn that into a starting point to approach the repair.

Thanks for the advice, will take it to a local specialist and get them to check it out.

Good point, however I only got Carista to enable a couple bits locked at factory such as one click mirrors.
