I've got the standard Aura head unit and 6 player CD in the glove box. CD player is having a hissy fit and showing the message "CD error" . Radio still works fine. Cd's are physically loading ok . Have taken out CD's and cartridge and replaced several times but same error message. No obvious dust or crud and they all played fine last week.

manual suggests "data transmisision fault" if it's not a physical problem with CD's.

Does that mean a loose connection? ....and if so could a total non-techie like me get at it and try to fix it or do I have to risk a dealer? Really can't afford more expense at moment :shrug:
 
Tim, my 6 disc gave up the ghost after playing "copied" discs...... What the dealer told me ! I think it is a simple fix, but as i never use it, i havent bothered.
 
Mine used to do the same...

Pirate CDs = Errors.

Sold it immediately (Gave it an Alpine)

Problems Over.
 
Try dipping a cotton-bud in some solvent like MrMuscle orange-action (I swear by it) or if you're posh, meths or iso-buta-something-or-other alcohol and poke it through the two white plastic guides on the left-hand side of the cartridge bay a few times

You're only looking to clean the guides, not poke bits of fluff into the mechanism or onto the lazer
 
Mine does excatly the same thing and it is worse with copied CD's. I end up having to eject the loader and sticking it back in. At some point I'll just bin it in favor of a head unit with hard disk or mp3/iPod compatability.
 
Thanks for the ideas guys. I don't have any Copied CD'rs in there (at present ;) )so can't see quite how that can be it.

Phil C's dirty delivery arms/pads sounds plausible so I''ll break out the cotten buds tonight and report back.
 
mine came up with this and shortly after it quickly died unfortunately
 
Had a go with cotton buds and tape cleaner fluid on what seem to be the little white pickup arms. Certainly cleaned some crud off them but still no joy.

"CD error" still showing with all of the pukka CD's in there.

Can't really understand how use of CD-R discs (copies of my old LP's burned onto CD) can eventually cause the unit to fail if it's played them successfully. Surely it doesn't have "timebomb" copy protection ???? :shrug:

Is it worth a trip to a dealer or do I accept it's time to change the ICE. (radio is excellent btw)
 
I get the same problem with certain CD's, mainly CD-r's but also some genuine one's too. For the past week I've been unable to play the disc in possition 2, just cleaned the rubber paddles with isopropyl alcohol and now works perfect. (but I wonder for how long)

Finally manged to get to clean the laser lens using a plastic plant label, wrapped in microfibre lense cleaning coth. Two decent wipes and Robert is your Aunties husband.. ...

No more error message;all 6 CD's playing again. As per earlier I have also cleaned the white CD pickup arms as suggested
