yeah I have looked at those kind of pods, however just not too keen on that location.
Furthermore, the link you gave me is for UK cars, and unless I want to look over to my pasenger side pillar constantly to see boost, I will need one for the left hand side...:D

Just looking for something that hasn't been done lots.

I saw a guy on here a while back with a mk4 who had it in the vents and looked great, and different!

but will see how things go...

haha, i forgot you have a left hand drive car! you may need to fibre glass the pods in place, but would look really good once its done i can imagine. something different as you say.

did you loose any of the multifunction controls when you done this ? like mpg, outside temp sensor or anything like this ?
and also what about the coding on the old radio unit did it come up with the display streight away or did you have to put the code in? if you wanted to reconect the old unit like you have

right firstly. i didnt touch a single function on the existing headunit. everything remains intact!
it will kepp all the functions, even the stereo will work, but will not be connected to the speakers.

secondly, i;m pretty sure these radios dont have codes, as its never askerd for one.

i will be creating my own wiring loom for this headunit, and just running the remote wire from the old loom. so that means the current system will still work in the future :)

hope that answers your questions.
oh, should be getting my dvd player tomorrow night, so i'm gonna install that then!

i'm so glad that i plucked up the guts and did this! it looks really good in the flesh, and should work brilliantly :)

That second one is my car :) Install was done back in 2003 when my mate owned it. The plastic surround has gone all flakey, probably from the heating/cooling over the years where the air seeps through from the heating/air con system. Last weekend i made some small inserts which i trimmed in black alcantara to cover over the flakey trim that was there. Looks pretty sweet now.

Wow that mod looks great! Saves cutting up the HU fascia to have the aftermarket one sticking out.

I'm keen on doing this but it's the wiring that would stop me in my tracks. Do wires have to be cut and soldered in order to just power the aftermarket HU?
I don't wanna loose the functions or display on the screen, just swap the sound from the tape player to the new one.

right, well i've had to cut every single speaker wire and solder then, but only because my new H/U didn't come with an ISO adapter. the power and ground cables go straight to the battery because i didn't want to under power it. easy enough to do though, and theres a grommit in the engine bay that can be used.
the remote wire comes from the old H/U which turns it on when i start the car.
wiring is very simple to do, its just the fitting!

sorry if i'm not allowed to post this!!

Sorry to bring up and old thread but this exactly what i want to do. Have a guide to how you did this? does that top part of the dash come out or do you just cut the vents out wth the dash in place?
sorry for the all the questions :)
