Im looking at changing the coolant in my tdi 130 with the G12 stuff as it's done 93k any one got any tips or advise? I can see a little tap thing under the front of car which releases the coolant ,is this all that you need to do to drain it? Cheers
Well it all started when my undertray parted company with the car as i tackled shell oils corner at oulton park a few weeks ago. This new found access to the underside of car made a coolant change a doddle plus i can make regular and easy checks on coolant hoses ect (very important on the nurburgring as loss of coolant will cause bike accidents). Yes i believe you don't need to change coolant but i liked doing it. By the way i believe the undertray makes bugger all difference as i feel no difference when flat out on a track mpg is no worse on the road , the tray keeps engine bay a bit cleaner a has a bit of sound proofing thats it
yes i belive the coolent is for life but when you change the cam belt you should replace the water pump at the same time so if you have changed the belt (pump) it should have been replaced!
The G12 coolent has a life of 5 yrs, as said above it might have been changed with the timing belt though. IMO it doesnt hurt to change it as it stops the engine internals corroding.
