Hi all,

I have bought a new gear knob for my leon, it is off a K1 cupra (original part off ebay - partsworld uk), to replace the bog stanard one and worn in mine.

Went to seat today to get it changed as was unsure myself how to do it, they said the knob fitted fine but they said the black gaitor clip of the old one was too small to fit the new one so the gaitor would not attach, can a clip from a DIY store be used to fit the gaitor to the knob?

If so I will do it myself this time, cost me bloody £17 to have my old knob taken off then put back on!!!!!

Any help on this matter is greatly appreciated.

Thankyou.

Pleased I read this post, as I was just about to buy the very same gear knob from the same seller. Let me know your progress...Sounds odd that the existing gaitor won't attach

Gear Knob

Hi there,

I have just replaced the gear knob. It did not take me long at all, so bloody simple can't believe I wasted £17 at Seat.

The problem with the new gear knob is that the original clip is slightly too thick. I bought a pack of jubilee clips 16mm - 32mm from wilkinsons for around a £1, you could actually use the next size down clips.

They did the job and the new gear knob looks smart. (you just have to fiddle around untill the plastic chrome ring fits snug to the gear knob, I found not tightening the clip too much did the trick).

If you feel around the gaiter on the left, right and back (nearest the handbrake end) you should feel some big clips, gently pull these back and lift and the gaiter pops out.

Unclip the metal jubilee clip on the bottom of the gear knob (mine had a screw you just loosened) and then pull the gear knob off.

Hope this helped.

hey guys thanks for the help, iv just bought the same gear knob. i posted a thread about this but had no response so far, im glad i found you. i have a 06 leon sport so im hoping this procedure will be the same for my car. many thanks guys!!

Its a little fiddly but you should manage just fine if you follow the above instructions thanks to Steady brek.

Massive improvement over stock gear knob, looks and feels so much better. Mines a 55 plate (06) Leon, so same difference. :funk:

Here you go mate, this is the one i have bought, its really nice and feels great (best knob iv had in my hands for a while) no seriously it really finishes off the car.

i havent actually got around to fitting it yet buy had a little look last night and seems a bit fiddly but straight forward as the guys above have stated.

i cant post the direct link as im just a nooby but just type in official seat cupra gear knob into googel at its on ebay. the one i got from is from parts world and its £29.99

not bad for an official bit of kit i think. let us know how u get on

I got the same knob on my Leon FR. I used tie-wraps to fit it. Don't you guys think the gear knob is too long/high once fitted? I'm thinking about cutting the top off the stick where the knob is fitted. What do you guys think, go or no go??

Evening chaps if anyone needs one of these k1 gear knobs i have a new one for sale £20 also a near side heated mirror glass and near side silver wing mirror cover

I like the cupra gear knob and its height...with the armrest fitted, i find it night and day over the stock leon gear knob. Very comfortable gear changes. Looks good too.

This is how it looks installed if anyone needs an example before purchasing either the cupra gear knob or the armrest:

I've got black/grey door panels and the material on the seats has yellow where you have red (but doesn't look as yellow as your looks red - I think), is there any armrests and or gear knobs to match mine. ANYONE??
