changing the factory stereo

first bit of help I need. believe me it wont be the last

I'm looking at changing the factory stereo in my 1998 Alhambra.

what I want to know is this, is there anyway to adapt the new stereo so I can use the factory remote stalk.

my wife is adamant that it has to be operational, if not then we keep the original tape player and I have to rewire the CD changer which has had the wires cut so will not be easy.

I'm pretty sure its not possible to use an after market stereo with factory remote's but I'm a Liverpool FC supporter so I know all to well about living in hope

It is Very unlikely on one of these i'm afraid... have you had the stereo out to look at the plugs on the back???

From what i remember they have an external amp fitted under the stereo which is a bit of a sod to access and means you have to do away with the controls....

well ive been speaking to a chap on ebay who reckons he can supply an adapter of some kind but he wants to know if its amped.

i think im just gonna have to bite the bullet and rewire the CD changer, just out of interest where is the CD changer supposed to be hidden, at the moment its rolling around in the back

The cd changer is supposed to be in the compartment on the drivers side in the back .. the one where the lid lifts up ... in there ..

really?

there is nowhere for the wire to go through and no holes etc to mount it to.

ill try and mount it under the passenger seat or something

You should find a pre wired plug inside the compartment below the rear cubby box, this can be connected to your cd changer via the appropriate connection. I used a company called add a cd changer to supply me with the bits I required to fit a six pack in my 1999 20 VT.

this is the thing though. when they took the CD changer out whoever did it cut the wires off the car side of that connector so the connector is actually still attached to the CD changer itself and somewhere in the back is a bunch of wires just hanging free and i cant find them :censored:

hi, did you ever manage to sort out yr cd player? i am trying to update my cassette player to cd player and halfords are having all sorts of problems getting adapters that work with the car as there is an amplifier connection in the cassette player that cd player doesnt have so the speakers wont work. and they say i cant use my steering controls either ( if they ever manage to get the thing working that is !)as there are no adapters for that either! any info would be good thanks. i have an alhambra 1999.

Hi I gave up trying to find a replacement radio/cd player which worked with all the controls that were fitted to the car and resigned myself to fitting a replacement standard radio that would drive my aftermarket CD player and enable me to use the column controls. Like you, Halfords gave up trying to find connectors that would work everything on my vehicle.

i never did get this sorted and i havent managed to get the CD player working either so have been resigned to the radio

however me and the wife are actually looking at buying a newer Bamma now so i am not bothering until we replace the old girl

i think in all honesty its more trouble than its worth trying as i had halfords and a local
ICE specialist look and neither could get me wired up with the control stalk still intact

hi, thanks for yr replies, i wouldn't mind if the control stick didnt work, just having a problem getting sound out because of the speaker amp connector not being compatible with anything. the guy at halfords has phoned everywhere to find a solution, he has ordered another part to bypass the amp so will let you know if it works. also, if it doesn't work, could i run a cd player off the cassette player? and how?
angie.
