check engine light has come on

i have just dropped my girl friend at work, on the way home my CEL has come on, really strange as the car is running probably the best iv ever had it running.
there are no problems, car ticking over nice, no searching.
its boosting nice. so its not over boosting.
i did have the cel come on once before, again the car was running nice, but the fault was a lamda sensor, my friend got rid of the fault on his vagcom, but does any 1 think its probably the same fault? it was about 6 months ago this happend!
any responce whould be fantastic
forgot to say the engine bay is nice and cool.

Is allways better to check the system when the light is on that is what they for?
i would recomended to check it.

i dont have vagcom or a code reader, but i will get some 1 to look at it in the week, in the the mean time will it be ok to drive, im pretty sure its my lamda sensor as it came up six months ago, i havnt replaced it.

If you have no choice, take it easy and off boost too.

i have my fault code. P0172 Fuel Trim - System Rich (Bank 1)
my friend from audi thinks this has come up due to setting up dv and installing a new maf sensor and induction kit all at the same time. he has cleared the fault. hopefully the CEL has gone for good

no fault extension

been driving all day and did another check. no faults good times
