Depends mate, few years back i would of said don't touch them at any price. These days even borg-warner turbos that were the OE turbos on our cars are now made in china as well.
Edit, if it was my car i probably wouldn't risk it, if a oil seal goes then that's one thing, but if the compressor fails then you could end up sucking bits of blade and debis into your engine too.

I've heard horror stories but on the other hand I've heard of people having them last 40k plus miles so it's pot luck.

A mate of mine got roughly 30 mins of road driving +2 laps.
Definitely won't last, particularly if you're running more boost than standard.

Country of manufacture isn't really a factor, is the specifications the product is made too is. When you consider most if not all apple products are made in china too. The Chinese copys are made to a lower cheaper standard with substandard materials! Borg warner turbos will still be as good made in china as they were made in Germany, Chinese copys unfortunately wont. Id rather fit a second hand borg warner than a new Chinese copy.
