This is what I have been trying to say in other posts but the petrol boys don't seem to be able to accept it!
My Golf runs more power again than that Ibiza! And I have footage of my TDI wasting 2 different Civic Type Rs at the Pod last August over the 1/4 mile.............AGAIN ALL OF THIS SHOWS how far diesels have come and that they are no longer slow and boaring they really fly.....plus I still never get below 40 mpg even on a track day!! which is astonishing!

I was a complete petrol head and would have never thought about buying a TDI until I drove this Tuned TDI Golf which I spotted on the offchance on Pistonheads.....My wife adored the Anniversary Golf and when we looked at the benifits of the TDI...they heavily outweighed the benifits of a petrol plus I had all of the performance I could have wished for.
I later bought it over a Civic Type R and Seat Leon Cupra R and haven't looked back since superb car fantastic all rounder....I'd only go back to a petrol now for the engine sound and it would be for a petrol guzzling Golf V6 R32/R34 Skyline or something like that if the wallet allowed! lol

i'm feeling you i got a better 1/4 mile time than a civic type r with a supercharger last saturday! (driver prob!)
diesel is now up to par with petrol conterpart look at le mans the audi diesel won!

with fuel consumption as well, i know the petrol arguments revs higher and sounds better! ;)

You get 40mpg out of your Golf thrashing it round a track...??? Forgive me for not believing you mate mate... But I doubt that very much...
Oh, just to add... My STANDARD CTR did a 14.52 @ 97.06mph when i had it.. So you wouldn't of wasted that... You need to have a crack at one with a decent driver in mate...

Ummm who owns the car me or you? Unless my Digital Average Mileage counter is lying it has never dropped below 40 mpg apart from when the MAF was knackered then power was down and average MPG was about 35/36mpg!

Perhaps so but When I was down the Pod I didn't see any CTR get below 15's!! Perhaps conditions for you were perfect to pull off a 14.52 in a CTR......I ran in August when Temps were up in the very high 20's hence why the CTR's were struggling due to heat soak etc!...I could have probably ran even faster in cooler conditions but still TDI matching a CTR is impressive as I highly rate a CTR and very nearly bought one myself.

So if you got 14.52, a descent driver should get low 13's:lol:

I would also have to agrea i doubt on a track day you would keep it over 40mpg, or are you the safety car. My tdi ibiza will slip into the 30's if you give it real real stick,

I have found in the past, most chips/tuning boxes for diesels do have an adverse effect on the trip computer, by making them over read, so if all you go off is what the display says, then it will actually be doing less than that, if you worked it out.
Like the video by the way !! ;)

I'm not knocking your car at all mate, hats off to ya... They're impressive figures for a soot chucker.. (even though it is fairly well modded).. Just stating that whilst on track, I can't think of ANY car that will do over 40mpg (Sinclair C5 maybe :D ).. And also saying that there are plenty of crap drivers out there in CTRs.. I've come across plenty myself... lol

Fair enough, perhaps like the Leon chap said perhaps my digital clock is out!
But for an example The Last time I went to Santa pod I drove there and back spirited driving all the way there and back with friends did 6 runs up the strip and Managed 415 miles to a full tank before the light came on? All my other mates in their 328i BMW, Nissan 200sx, and MR2 Turbo had ran out of fuel by the end of the strip racing! lol

I beat the 328i everytime, but the MR2 Turbo had me both times! didn't race the 200sx but it was running low 14's the MR2 was running High 13's!

Anyone able to work that out what mileage I got that weekend? 415 miles to £50 of Diesel? That was hammering it everywhere!

I agee many Type R drivers do not know how to hammer them to their full potential! lol I love the Type R and would certainly know how to take it to 8,500rpm!
