im new to the forum and im about to buy a lcr 225 after ive sold my ep3 have been offerd a very low milage lcr for a realy good price but it has been chipped not remaped. now at some point once i have the correct mods i would like to go down the stage1/2 root would a revo dealer or some where like amd essex be able to remove the chip and upload one of there maps or would the chip have to be removed by the origonal installer chears in advance

This is what i though but when i asked the bloke im buying it from he said he had it chipped and i asumed that it would be in the form of a piggy back chip on the ecu ?

My monies on as i have said tbh
You have no idea what map is on it now, get it on the rollers and see how it is performing first is my advice.

If it has been mapped via the obd port is there any way of telling if its revo or coustom. Ive been told its running 265 bhp but thats about it

To be honest the guy before is probably confused. I doubt he has it 'chipped', it's most likely remaped however he refers to it as being chipped. Get it to soemone like AmD, they can run a full check on it and I am sure they would be able to see whether it is a revo map. Where they deal with Revo maps as well as their own they should be able to see certain signs and similarities if it is one of the maps they deal with.

There was an instance previously where one guy took the car to another mapper who also dealt with Revo maps and could tell that the map on his car was a Revo one. If it isn't one of the maps they deal with then there is no way of finding out. So I'd suggest just making sure it is running ok, if so then continue modding and get a new map put on when you are ready
