Merry xmas Everyone,

can anyone tell me if i can clear faults with the shareware version of vag com from ross tech???
just scanned my car and it came up with inlet manifold motor flap intermittant fault, took it off cleaned up and now sorted for time being:lol:
but the vag com can't clear it, says something about registration/ activation code???
will this cost me or what???

happy new year:funk:

Yes you can clear codes. You have to clear them from the module throwing them provided you have resolved the issue. If the issue is not resolved and the ECU resets it, then the code will appear to have not cleared.

You can register your shareware version for $99 on our web site.

For information about the differences between a full version and shareware, see the Function Table.

I believe you are trying to clear all faults. You need to go into the module with the fault and clear the fault there. Only Ross-Tech professional interfaces can clear "all" faults.

As the Manual says:

http://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/tour/autoscan.html
[Clear All DTCs]
This function is only available when using a HEX Interface and is implemented in two ways. On pre-CAN vehicles, VCDS will access each control module and clear DTCs from each one individually. On vehicles using CAN for diagnostics, VCDS performs this function without accessing all the control modules individually if the Use CAN Command box is checked. If you are not using a HEX Interface then you'll need to go into each module that has faults to clear them individually. This function is also accessible from the Applications Screen

The VIN should be retrieved automatically from all cars which "know" their VIN. Also in control modules that provide it, engine codes and Jxxx component identifiers are shown as well.

You do not need a professional interface to clear the codes. You need to open each module in which a fault code appears and clear the code there.

Your car does not use CAN to communicate diagnostic information, so you do not need an interface capable of CAN diagnostics.

You said in another post that you picked up an eBay wire and that you are running a full version of VCDSLite having purchased a license for it. A full licensed VCDSLite will clear codes. You just cannot use the Clear All function in the autoscan to do it.

So what is your remaining question?

That wire should do the job with a full licensed VCDSLite setup.

We are working on a manual for VCDSLite. That manual may be ready in a few weeks for publication on the net. In the mean time, we have an older manual for Version 409 of VAG-COM available in pdf form.

[VAG-COM is the old name for VCDS (VAG-COM Diagnostic System). (We had to change the name to drop our use of VAG per agreement with VW.)]

i am still having trouble i did a log today
can anyone help with it

For the HVAC module error, the one that concerns me is the memory error. This error usually points to a module that is or has failed and nothing you do short of replacing module will solve the problem.

Your Airbag fault indicates a failed igniter. You should have that checked by someone who knows what they are doing. You could also look for a loose wire because it would cause a "resistance too high" error.

The intermittent fault in the anti-theft alarm is probably bogus and should just be cleared. If it returns, then you have problem there that needs to be looked into and I do not have a clue where to start on that one.

To Creswell22. What decision did you come to on purchasing that particular cable? I am a bit lost with searching and all the options that are available and want to make sure I buy something that works.

I am only after it so I can work out my ABS fault. Which I am suspecting is one of the sensors.
