Hi, ive got a 03 pd130 sport, and everytime I brake quite firmly I hear a single clunk and hear it again when pulling away. Its sounds like something moving out of position and then moving back.

Possibly front passenger side

so far ive changed:

Cupra wishbone bushes
Front wishbone bushes
New anti roll bar with arb bushes
powerflex dogbone bush
Both outer cv joints

It also creaks when steer lock to lock whilst stationary

its driving me crazy!!

Thanks

Checked the springs and stuff, the rears will quite happily snap the ends off the coil - can be quite hard to spot.

Thanks for the replies How can I check the inner cv? I was told by my mate that a rear spring is snapped but I didn't think ot would cause a noise at the front?

Search how to test, i aint got enough posts for it, its on wiki and youtube

As far as im aware its connected to the drive shaft so you are often better just getting a new driveshaft thats what im to do, when ive got the money! cos insurance is due in a few weeks and ive got no money :(

It would probably make some noise as it wouldn't seat correctly, so it's worth fixing it.
Might be the noise weirdly travels through the car.

Exact same issue here with the clunking, at first i thought it was console bushes which were spud bashed when I had the car, so far I've changed them for solid up-rated bushes, coilovers all round, new track rod ends and drop links, front top mounts, dog bone fitted with new powerflex bush, new lower arms and ball joints, and a new wishbone mount on the passenger side as the long bolt snapped in there when changing the console bushes.

All of above i haven't changed just because of the knock but because majority of components were truly shagged. It almost sounds like a popping when braking but definitely a clunk when pulling away fairly hard and even changing gear sometimes, which leads me to engine mounts, so I'm planning to change both the gearbox mount and the drivers side engine mount in the hope it solves the issue, if it's still there when i'm done all i can think is inner CV joints like said above, however I spent all day saturday underneath the car changing the clutch which i wouldn't want to do again anytime soon, and had the clunking in mind so I was checking the drive shafts and joints and for any signs of contact on anything around the drivers foot well which is where it sounds like it's coming from, but like already said noises transmit, It doesn't affect the drive at all it just doesn't sound healthy.

Engine mounts first then CV joints i guess, I'm glad i'm not alone on the hms clunky

Seat Ibiza TDI sport reporting in the clunk.....

I had the clunk when pulling away and under harsh braking which has now been sorted and I've changed...

Wishbone bushes to the Flo Flex items

eBay item number: 390891580203

Bottom ball joints from local motor factors (FAI make)

Dogbone mount bush

eBay item number: 120916843384

Brakes, pads, calipers, carriers and disc taken off, cleaned, checked and refitted.

So far so good but due to the bushes I've fitted I can feel a little vibration on idle but not that harsh IMO.

Hope this helps others.

Same issue, similar fixes tried, still getting 'clunk'. this is on a 20vt FR. new bushes on wishbones, ARB, ball joints etc checked, had a good pull at droplinks and seem within decent tolerances...weird.

To me it sounds like it's coming from under my feet whilst driving?, my whole front end set up is pretty much brand new, pedal box? Engine mounts? Waiting on the drivers side mount so I'll report back when that's on. We will beat this

exactly mine, when braking hard every time I get a good clunk from the area by my feet / centre of the car

Update - This knocking is definitely the engine mount on drivers side, I'll get some pics tomorrow

You can see here the base plate of the mount has sheared the spot welds on the chassis, there is a line you can see on the image where the plate should sit

All stripped out and cleaned, it'd sheared off two earth leads that were attached to the turret, sheared a mounting bracket for the fuel filter housing and had been nibbling it's way through the AC pipe underneath. Making progress..
