Clunking noise when braking

Right guys, hoping you can help me out before i pull my hair out.

I have had a clunking noise from the drivers side wheel area. Now this noise only happens when i reverse and then brake. But it will only do it once.

When i move forwards and brake it also will clunk, but aslong as i dont go backwards again it will not clunk again.

Not the weird thing is i thought that my wishbone rear bush had gone, i also had stripped the thread in the droplink hole so i decided to buy a new wishbone, complete with all bushes and new lower ball joint. (im going to be polybushing it next week so dont worry - boths sides will be the same)

I have also checked and double checked everything was tight and it is, also checked the track rod and it seems ok, although i have tightened it slightly, but the noise still remains!

You can actually see the wheel jerking as it makes the noise (got the gf to drive)

But i honestly cannot see what the problem is.

Car is on fk coilovers, wound all the way down, with a tt arb and standard droplinks if this helps?!

Throw some ideas at me please, cheers tony

I have the same issue as you by the sounds of it....single knocks when pulling away from <10mph or braking from <20ishmph.

It's going into the garage next friday as I'm not mechanically minded, I can pass on their findings to see if it helps you at all.

This is usually the pads moving in the caliper. Hence why it only occurs when changing forwards to backwards the first time you apply braking.

People usually put up with it. There's nothing wrong or wearing out its more pad sizing. You could get in touch with Bill at Badger 5 on here. He might know of a fix or a certain pad that fits better. Hes pretty good on brakes.

Maybe worth asking someone to slowly move the car back and forth so you can watch/listen just to confirm.

My own solution is turning up the stereo :D

Okay, reassuring to know (if that is the issue). It's still going to garage for other stuff too so I'll see what they have to say.

I may have got a little excited that you might have diagnosed the problem, I've completely overlooked the fact that it happens when pulling away too.....unless that would just be the pads being pushed back to where they were before braking shifted them...?

Yea I'm wondering about cv, but would think it would be clicking at full lock.

It's honestly like the wishbone is.moving but I.dunno.how, and my cars too low to see when its moving :/
