Had Jom coilovers fitted for nearly a year now. However when going over small bumps or turning at skews occasionally there is a loud metallic clunk which can be quite unnerving. It feels like the spring not moving, being put under pressure then finally moving rapidly. Is this common, does it need greased up? On a side note the springs and coilies are corroding like mad, only been a year!

yeh ive got that aswell this coilovers the top mounts in mine were replaced at the start if this year and one is ****ed already lol if its like a creaking sort of noise it will be the top mount bearings either have play in them or have seized try nd grease them first. if they are corroding try and get them replaced 2 year warranty:)

To resolve the corrosion.... wax oil, I covered my coilies with unilease then wax oil after it soaked in. Will keep them protected

This is from my rr thread. "The only problem i did have with them was the nut coming loose inside the shock absorber body, this allowed the dampening cartridge to come loose and make a loud rattle. If i was you, before fitting i would take the cap off the shock absorber body and remove the nut, loctite it and put it back in, this should stop it coming loose in the future." I had exactly the same problem, I did that and there spot on now. I'm pretty sure that will be your problem.

I am also having a "twang" kind of sound from my jom coilovers when turning tightly at low speeds, usually when I first pull off in the morning. I've booked mine in to be looked at so will let you know what my mechanic says is the problem when its been in.

The 'twang' noise is normally top mount bearings. Did you change them when you had the coliovers fitted? When you drop it off, if there is movement between the body of the shock and the 'piston' part then it will be the nut inside, the mechanic will probably say there broken. Where abouts are you? If your close I could come and have a look.

A few months ago I had a bad knocking sound which my mechanic said was the top mounts which were knackered. Changed those and the sound continued. He had a look at the shock absorbed that side and the nut holding the damper in place was loose as you suggested. As soon as it was tightened the knock stopped. The "twang" is a new sound so I am stumped....

Quick update: the sound I was hearing was a load of stones that had got lodged between the shock absorber and the spring. Mechanic just jacked the car up and knocked them all out with a screw driver..problem solved!

Would you guys recommend these Coilovers? Stumbled across them whilst doing a search for myself. Other than the dodgy shock absorber nut, have you had any other problems? What are they like when driving round?

They seem fine to be honest. No problems apart from the loose nut in the shock absorber. They're perfectly okay to drive with but I only have a 1.2 so not sure how they'd behave on a car with more power...

I have them on my Cupra, starting to get a slight knock but other than that they are spot on, probably due to having 6 year old top mounts!

My recommendations are keep them well greased and make sure the rear springs reseat themselves properly whenever you jack them up, every time I've had the car in a garage I've had to pull over, jack the car up and sit the springs back in again lol

Cheers guys! I've also read somewhere that people have bought shorter drop links as well (such as mondeo drop links) does this make a difference and would you also recommend getting some?

When I had my coilovers fitted my mechanic just put some shorter drop links on anyway so not entirely sure what difference it would make with standard ones however it is apparently advisable to fit shorter ones when lowering the car. Hope this helps...

I'll be fitting these myself (well, my mate will be doing most of the work!) think I'll just get some shorter drop links to be safe.

Yeah sounds sensible to me. Like I say I don't actually know what difference it makes but if my mechanic recommends it I tend to go with what he says so I would say the same to anybody else.

The metal knocking when going over bumps could be the front arb knocking on the chassis if you have the coilovers wound right down.

Have you got any pictures of yours lawrie so I can see what it looks like with the Coilovers on? How Low have you dropped it as well? How much are the Puma drop links?

Looks good mate! Exactly what I'm after. Without tryin to sound to dumb, do you buy 2 or 4 drop links? I've got no clue when it comes to suspension!! :help:
