clutch change

Hi
I have a 20vt that will require a new clutch before too long, is it a do it yourself job. If so what is involved in the removal/replacement of the clutch.

if you're a capable mechanic and have done them before, you'll have no problems.

gearboxes are heavy though, but if you have a buddy that will help you lift it - it'll make it much easier.

Thanx Mork

Have ready some horror stories on other sites about how long a clutch change takes. I am fairly capable as a mechanic so I think i will place the order for a clutch kit and wait for warmer weather before tackling the job. Do I need to replace the slave cylinder as some other people have said ?

Hi,
Well worth changing the release bearing/slave cylinder unit while the box is out..... If your model has the vw 6 speed box, then they are heavy and a bit tight to get in and out. Book time on a ramp is about 4-5 hours I think, but easily double that if your doing it on axle stands.
