Clutch needs to be replaced, i can either pay 100 quid to get it done, or have a bash myself. Any body know of a guide any where, or have any good tips? im fairly good with the tools, but never done a clutch before.

Clutches are one of those shitty jobs id rather pay someone todo.... speaking from experience.

i agree, when having all my gearbox work done i had a look when it was apart, didnt look pretty, alot come off the engine and ancilleries to get it all apart. plus 100 quid is a good price.

Agree ^^

I found it rewarding to do, and it was a huge leap of faith (haynes to the rescue) but it's pretty straight forward (and not too much in the way of fiddley spaces)

along the lines of:
Drain gearbox oil
unbolt driveshafts (at g/box end)
remove start motor
undo all the bolts that hold it onto the block
replace clutch (remember to use a centering tool)
refit gearbox (lol)
and the starter
and all the other bits you took off to do the above removing
curse at VW designers for putting the gearbox oil top up hole in such a stupid place.

Didnt realise you would have to drain the gear box oil, thought it would be sealed away from the clutch etc. Are the centering tools the same for all cars, or do you get different sizes etc for different cars? I turned a bit of steel at work that slides into the splined clutch bore, but im not sure if it would fit the fly wheel bore.
Where would i get the correct tool from?
Time isnt a problem, just worried about getting stuck halfway througth, and having half my internals on the floor!

draining gearbox oil is easy. I guess it makes it lighter (every kilo helps)

centering tool 'kit' was bought from halfords

all said & done. for £100 - I would let someone else do it. But it is good

I did mine a couple of weeks ago.

Iam a VW/Audi/Seat technician and i found it a fiddle, gear boxes are generally easy (in fact ive done 2 touran's today). Alot of crap on the Cupra to remove before wiggling the box out, and the engine needs to be held towards the front of the car, i used the jack out the back of my car, against the subframe and engine block.. Not a easy job for you to do, especially if you haven't got a ramp. Personally i wouldn't let anyone else exept a select few work on my car but i would have payed to get that done. Twas a sh*t

I agree with you. Its a pain to do Ibiza gearboxes. Comes with the job:cry:

It is much easier to drop the subframe slightly. This saves a good hour gettin it in and out.[B)]

Ive never had to drain the oil when doing a box tho?!

I would gladly pay someone £100 to do it for me. Would be nice to sit and watch for once!
