Clutch pedal not quite right. (Height)

Ok, i know this is common and its happen to nearly everyone on here but here goes.

My clutch pedal box broke as they do, done loads of searching on here and saw the best/cheapest option was to re-weld the old pedal.
So i got the pedal re-welded while still 'ON' the car.

Once welded it was ok but was never like it used to be before it went, it was really low in height and would only come right up by hooking your foot/toe under the pedal to get it back up.

I then looked into etka parts for all the bits that assembled the pedal, saw that it had a returning spring (I think its called) a bought one, once that was fitted it made a world of difference so smooth!

So now it returns to a better height without the hook of the foot so much )Still have to do it ever so slightly to get it right to the top (got used to it now)

But now its bugging me!

POINT IS :

Its happen to so many people on here i wanna know if peoples clutch pedals have gone back to normal after the the clutch pedal broke and they re-welded it??

1. Right height/Feel?
2. Do you have to lift it that bit further?
3. Was it on the car or did you take it off to/fix re-weld?

Im thinkin maybe where i got it welded on the car the little flap on the pedal box wasn't welded fully closed (Those of you who have actually seen the pedal box) Affecting the height and maybe needs bleeding which i haven't done?

Got another new pedal on the way with extra welds which im going to fit and bleed the clutch which i hope sloves it.

Or could it actually be the master cylinder?

Biting point is fine/ No clutch slipping.

Thought i'd give as much detail as poss.

The mechanic that welded it on the car and re used the white clip (Which most people have i think) i would have thought that was ok cause he would not of been able to fit the pedal back and it actually work if the clip broke too.

Its just there still abit of play in the pedal, should there be?

When driving you have to lift it up every so often.

i dont have to lift my pedal up at all mate, the clip on mine was half broken so it did work but it didn't return the pedal right the way up, the clip only costs pence to replace so i got a new one and it cured it for me. i presume the spring is seated correctly on the pedal also or it would just fall out or not return the pedal at all.

Hmm...

I think i'll get another white clip to try then, spring looks seated correctly (Never come loose/Fallen out)

Did you bleed the clutch at all?
Weld it on or off the car?

welded it off the car mate and no i didn't bleed the clutch, as i say the clip was less than a quid so its worth a try!

Well i got a new pedal with extra welds on the way, will get a new white clip maybe new returning spring while im at it and hope for the best.

Not gonna bleed it just yet, i'll fit everything first.

Its probably where his welded on the car it isn't done properly and the white clip is shagged/ not fully in.

Remove it all and start again i think

Mine does this! And always have done.

It tends to drop when not in use, like when its left for a while and not driven.

I find it really stiff and hard work compared to other cupras i've driven as well.

mine as never dropped as such, only dropped when it broke.
and its still smooth.

I take it yours broke while you've owned it and you sorted?
if so did you get it re-welded on the car?

Change the master and slave cylinder then Phil. Give it a bleed and it should make the world of difference. If thats not the problem then change the spring and clips.

My cylinders seemed fine and the pedal was nice and light, but i changed them anyway and it transformed the feel and made it even lighter.

Whats the damage on both parts alex? Much of a job to change them as well?

I think i'm gonna bleed it first then see how it feels.

yeah i have this issue with mine. gets a bit annoying at times. my car was running weird until i noticed that the clutch pedal was done. reving into gear changes and pulling off alot slower. got used to pulling it up now. will take a look at the white clip on it or the spring. any one have any pics of the lay out so i know what i am looking for

Mine snapped.. when just about to pull away luckily.

I got it towed to my mates garage, I took the peddle off, my mate welded the snapped "lid" back on the box (welded all the way round), sprayed it black, refitted the white (unbroken) clip, then cursed and swore at the return spring, alll done and fixed in less than 2 hours.

I know we did a pretty good job on it (better standard than I would expect in an average garage).

However, I am not really happy with the clutch pedal... sits at an odd height and I sometimes have to flick it up (but then you get into the habit of checking every gear change)... this seams to be worse when the car has been sat for a while (I only use it at weekends).

Now I do currently have a broken clutch pedal switch (threads are stripped) and it was better when I readjusted this, I have got a brand new switch to fit so I'm hoping this might sort it... think I might get it bled too.

I'll let you know if it sorts it... I'm pretty sure it's the switch in my case.
